    Yeah.
Who cares, do it! Seriously, it's all mental -- stuff that looks scary is usually not near as hard as you think. Sometimes a little speed helps smooth things out. Kinda like driving over railroad tracks.

Just wear protection, and don't blame me if things go wrong.:D

its not bad, i had my wahoo but wish i had my EX8 because it was so rocky haha. the worst part is the climb, this one was probably an hour climb atleast but there are some trails out here that are like 30 minute climbs. so really it comes down to if your willing to ride up the mountain haha

this trail did have some very technical downhill sections, a few rock gardens and a few small drops. i went on a ride in the fall with the SVBC and that one wasnt as techincal but just as fast
this to a point haha just take it easy if you arent feeling it haha. i did wish i had shin guards though my front tire was shooting up nice sized rocks that were hitting my shin but oh well haha

Check out the Giro's models their nice and protective (definitely the most comfortable) I would check out the 'feature' for starters, but the 'xen' and 'xar' are also nice helmets but they will run you a bit of cash, never a better time than to invest in your head

i ride with a fox flux but like focotacoma said giro is a good brand too, you cant go wrong with bell either. it looked like a lot of the guys yesterday were wearing the bell sequence or maybe the variant i couldnt tell. i would just go into the shop and see what fits/feels the best

EDIT: i just saw the poc trabec on hucknroll.com for 72.98 which is a good price if you are down to spend that much. i love the look of it and i probably would have gotten it over the flux if i had know it was on sale haha i love my flux though it fits perfect

    http://www.hucknroll.com/poc-trabec-helmet?cmp_id=ODAT_RR3001&rrType=TopSellers&rrProd=POC0106

oh yeah and you definitely want something that goes a little bit further down the back of your head which is what most of the ones we just named do

    Yeah.
There is a bigger difference between a good helmet and a cheap helmet than it may appear. Adjustability, types of padding, and comfort go way up on the nicer ones, and you can usually find one on sale. My favorites have been:

Bell Variant (2010 model is $39 at JensonUSA right now if you have a small or medium head). I have had two of these, my current one is setup with a light for night riding

Giro Hex/Xen/Xar: I have tried these on, they are comfortable and good quality, but a little pricey and not much better than the Variant

Fox Flux: This is my current helmet, found it on eBay for about $60. This is the most comfortable helmet I have worn and provides a little better protection for the back of your noggin.

As far as shin guards go, I have tried a couple kinds -- unless you are riding lifts and always heading downhill, they are more trouble than they are worth. I use the 661 Kyle Strait knee pads now -- they are awesome. You start noticing them on really long rides, but not bad. They cover a bit of the shin below the knee, so you do have some protection there.

i dont and honestly i dont think they are worth it unless you are doing crazy DH or freeride stuff. the trails i ride would be hell with a full face on. i feel safe with my fox flux. so really it depends on the trails you ride and how hard you are pushing it. if your comfortable with it then rock it!

    Yeah.
I had one, but I sold it on Pinkbike. Too bulky, heavy and hot. Unless you live in BC and never pedal up a hill, they are probably overkill. They are nice for warmth in the winter, but that is about the only thing I liked about it.

The Fox Striker is 50% off on hucknroll.com. (edit: that's only for one specific size and color scheme)Doesn't look quite as cool as the Flux, but it appears to have decent rear protection

I have a Giro Hex...would like to try a Flux though, look really good. IMHO go try on a ton of helmets don't set a price limit, pick the most comfortable. You know you have the right one when you forget your wearing it.

Full face...you know when you need a full face.
