It recalibrates it to the new length of the pedal.

Blaaahh! Airbag light came on last night. Called the dealer this morning, and this is what I'm told.

Right now, there's no recalls on record for my truck. The letter we got is a pre-recall information letter. When the parts are released, the official recall will go out, and I can make an appt. to get it looked at. If I wanted it looked at now, I would have to pay the diagnostic fee, and the install fee for the new clock-spring. Then, when the recall comes out, I can go to Toyota to try to get my money back. Sucks.

Relax..... give them some time to get the parts to the dealerships. There are hundreds of dealerships across the country and lots of parts need to be produced. I called my dealer and they don't have the parts yet either. Not only that - but the dealerships & techs (performing the work) have to get familiarized with the procedure.

There is a caveat there.up to this point Toyota charged 500 bucks to fix the problem thus earning profit. Now they are in survival mode trying not to loose bazillion dollars. I bet their research and development engineers are trying to devise a contraption so that repairs cost a lot less than 500 so they minimize losses. I still have the old part and to me it looks like a cheap piece of molded plastic with some copper wire inside and a bearing in the middle. Nothing about it screams that it's a $300 part.

Hopefully I get the money I still had to pay.. :) and if they completly replacing the cable, I guess I'll be getting another
because mine was replaced prior to the recall .

And if you subscribe in the Toyota site as an owner and list your vin #, under safety recalls and service campaigns this is the message they have.

"Safety Recall C0B (C1B) Preliminary Notice - Certain 2005 to 2009 Model Year Tacoma Vehicles - Spiral Cable Assembly Replacement
At the present time, Toyota is developing a remedy for this safety recall.

What is the Condition? Due to combination of the spiral cable design and characteristics unique to the chassis components of the Tacoma, steering wheel vibration ("flutter") may cause friction between the Flexible Flat Cable (FFC) and the retainer in the spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel. In FFC's with seven-channel circuits, friction over time may result in damage to certain circuits on the flat cable that provides connectivity to the driver's air bag module. If connectivity is lost, the air bag warning lamp will illuminate. In addition, the driver’s air bag may become deactivated, causing it to not deploy in the event of a crash. This could increase the risk of injury to the driver.

When will the Remedy be Available: Toyota anticipates that the remedy will be available in the near future. At which time, Toyota will notify owners of covered vehicles by first class mail. Additional information will be posted on this site once the remedy is available.

    Campaign # C1B

Are you saying I just paid $28k for a truck with Lucas parts... safety-related parts at that?

As a one-time owner of a Brit sports car with Lucas (aka "Prince of Darkness") wiring, I find that a bit disturbing.

I have hear that the Lucas motto is "get home before dark"; and that Brits drink warm beer because their refrigerators are made by Lucas.

I was told a month since I had to just replace mine. They quoted me 400 for a new one. I said eff that and got them down to 220. Still wasn't happy, they checked out the part more and told me it was due for a recall but the part wasn't ready. They told me about a month when the recall is out and the part is ready, I could come back for the recall and they would put the new one in plus reimburse me for buying the old one

Hey Guys and Gals, just a heads up! On my 2007 Tacoma after installing the seat covers my "airbag" light came on. I tried several different things to get it to go away including, disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, rechecking all connections under both front seats to no avail. Finally bit the bullet and took it to the dealer. Turns out it came up with code #B1801 (Spiral Spring Faulty). Fortunately it was covered under the Airbag recall and was free of charge. If you guys see this, I'd suggest taking it into the dealer or just deal with the ANNOYING red light on your dash. Take Care.
