Are your 265s 70s or 75s? The 70s are the same diameter as the 245/75/16s it came with and the 75s are only a little over 1" larger. With the stock 245/75/16 Dungflops and a 3" lift I get 20mpg with winter gas & 24mpg with summer gas. The only thing I would regear for is if I kept the 255/85/16 BFG KM2s on full time. I run the Dungflops for my 280 mile/week commute and put the KM2s on when I go out to play.

Does anyone know about why Toyota stopped offering the 4 cylinder Tacoma Prerunner with the 5 speed in the access cab? It also looks like you cannot get a single cab Prerunner at all. This is from going to their site and doing the 'build your own'.
I wrote Toyota about the first thing I mentioned, and got kind of a corporate boiler plate response that there are many factors/they consider all inputs/customers/etc/etc. Also did they drop this combination in 2011 also? I believe I saw a 2010 with this combo on Autotrader for sale. This is the combination I would be buying and am disappointed they aren't selling it. Thanks.

You should realize that the pre-runner will not get the same 21-25 epa rating as the 5-lug like toyota claims through EPA lax requirement.

A prerunner is the worst of both worlds. My recommendation, get the 5-lug since your posting on a 2.7L mpg post.

This is not close to right. If you bought the truck new then I would be off to the dealership in an instant. If you bought it used then that is a different story. Which one is it? Also 235/15 tires are not stock. What else have you changed....

One thing I have noticed over the last year is that the OAT (outside air temp) makes a big difference in mileage. I have been in Phoenix this winter and have a scan gauge II. When the OAT is below 60 degrees the mileage decreases 10 to 15%. It has been interesting to watch. I wonder if someone could find and replace the temperature sensor with one that reads higher than real OAT, would that increase the gas mileage. There was a post awhile back that said when going down hill it was actually better mileage wise to leave it in gear than to shift into neutral because of the way the EFI works. I believe that is correct. Watching my scan gauge II it shows all 9s for mileage when going down hill with my foot off the gas but in neutral it shows a high number like 120mpg. Driving down to Phoenix from Oregon last fall I averaged over 30mpg and was cruising at 70mph most of the way. It is 1400 miles btw. I must say I am very happy with the mileage on my truck that now has 32000 miles on it.

I bought It used and it came with those tires. I will be changing out the plugs and maybe replacing the air filter to see if that will help. The only mods I have done were touching up the exterior (tinting, bhlm, subwoofer, etc)

UPDATE: Filled up yesterday and my mileage has improved to 20.6 mpg city/hwy driving. My mileage is now @ 5900 miles. I'm guessing improvement is due to warmer weather. This is first fill up in over a month. I'll post again later on this summer.

I've tracked my stats with fuelly from day 1 and get 23.5mpg, most of that is loaded down with tools.

Empty, with my roll n lock and taking it easy on the highway, 30 happens easily :D

Just started a Fuelly account. Been getting 24.5 to 26.5, but the last couple of tanks traffic has been a bear, and I've been a bit stressed and driving like an asshole so I've been down at 23.5... Need to work on that ;)

i get about 28 mpg on the interstate...i get little less around town i have a 1996 4x4 with a 5 spd and stock steel wheels from a 2010 tacoma so im actually getting a few more mpg than i account for since the tires are slightly taller than stock

I get 21 mpg, but it has gone up recently. I'll check in after this tank to confirm what helped.

235/70-15 is about 4% larger than stock.
    17.37mpg is actually a hair over 18.

Also be sure that you are calculating correctly...

Full the tank, first click. Reset the trip odometer (I use Trip-A for gas and Trip-B for oil). Run it down to less than 1/2 tank.
Write down miles on the odometer, fill to first click (same station and pump if possible), write down gallons.
Divide miles by gallons for MPG.

A LOT of people do not properly calculate or "guesstimate" thinking that 1/2 tank is, say, 10 gallons.
