What Insurance do you have ?

I am paying State Farm auto insurance for my Tacoma and every time I do I remember paying close to the same amount when I was high school. I'm 46. A long way from HS. Accident free. No tickets. Already have discounts for misc things and still the cost seems outrageous.

What does everyone else have and have they been good about claims?
State Farm has but I have to shop around. I'm calling Liberty Mutual in the morning.

Been great with claims, 3 wrecks .. not in the taco, none my fault. The last one totaled my car. They gave me a rental and gas for 7-10 days to find a new vehicle. Found the Tacoma after 9.5 days of searching.

You can beat their rates, but you can't beat their coverage and claims service.

I've had nightmares with State Farm, and when dealing with Farmers and other companies when I've had damage on a vehicle that I did not have collision and had to work directly with the other company, but any time I've worked with AAA it's been a breeze... quick repair and they handled getting repayment from the other company.


As for what you're paying.... Ya... you're 46... married with a good driver discount puts you at the lowest rate... but it's been 20 years since you were in high school.
In high school, a burger, fries, and coke was $3, now the same combo would be $7. Rent was $300, and minimum wage was $3.35

 

State Farm pay about $865 a year, have had great luck with them

Can't compare rates across state lines.

Sometimes you can't even compare rates between two different zip codes.
Full coverage in Los Angeles is going to be double full coverage in Bishop, and those are both in California.
Full coverage in Bishop will likely be significantly more than full coverage in Phoenix.

 

Allstate. And they're awesome with claims, I've never had any trouble whatsoever. My parents have Allstate, too and they maxed out a $300,000 policy with Allstate and their agent didn't even blink, just asked if my parents would like the check written to them so they could pay it or directly to the hospitals/ambulance/life flight companies.

I use a midsized local company. They've been good to me.

I won't touch Allstate anymore. Their first mistake was quoting $8000/yr (not a typo) for a $15k Honda to a 25 y/o driver with perfect credit and driving history. Second mistake was giving me a phone call once a freakin day for 3 months after I declined a quote for the truck (which at least wasn't too bad this go around)

 

state farm....multiple policies (2 trucks, motorcycle, home)...i looked into geico, progressive, etc....but none of them could get close

 

Can't compare then with now, I've been out of high school 35 years now. No way could I compare dollar value then with dollar value now.

I've used GEICO, rates were above average and they wouldn't cover glass damage.

Used Allstate, they raised my rates considerably after a very minor parking lot incident where I was found at fault (to this day I dispute I was at fault). They subsequently lost 2 cars, a motorcycle and homeowners policy as a result. Thirty years without a claim and they pull this shit, they can pack sand.

I'm now with Progressive for all my vehicles and Travelers for homeowners. In my area it pays to shop around for homeowners insurance, hurricane deductibles can range from 1-5%. The difference between paying out of pocket or getting a second mortgage just to pay the deductible.

Insurance companies suck, but they know you have to have them

 

USAA - since 1975 when I joined Army ROTC.

 

Yeah I know the cost of everything is higher than 25 years ago but seriously. No accidents. No tickets. Nothing.

 

I had State Farm and I felt like I was paying more than an arm and leg, even for California. I finally decided to use USAA since I'm in the military.

 

Farm Bureau, I never have trusted big name companies like Geico or Progressive, most that insurance money you pay goes to pay for their advertising campaign. Plus after having to deal with an insurance claim over Progressive last fall, I would never go near that company! Took 2 fucking months to get my truck repaired, those assholes were trying their best to get out of it. It was only $2600 in damage, what was the big deal, that's hardly felt by a massive company like that!

 

I had State Farm when I started driving at 15 til I was 24. They were great with my one claim (kids pushed my motorcycle over) and had low rates for a teen. I switched to USAA and get even better rates and awesome claim service. The send a tow truck to pick up your car, provide a rental, pretty much no hassles at all.
