Flip-Pac Shells

I'm 250 on a light day, and my wife and I plus our 3 year old have no issues up there. The poles really act as stabilizers and keep the wind from flipping it shut when empty. The real load is transferred to the torsion bar which supports 95%+ of the occupants weight.

The biggest difference is customer service - Adventure Trailers will take care of you no matter what. I've known them since the beginning, stand up guys and they know their shyte. FRP? They're nice folks but you have to GO THERE in person to get any traction with them. Outdated website, limited computer skills, rotary phone in the office with piles of papers all over. Old school. And their main business is not shells, its a sideline thing for them as they make everything imagineable out of fiberglass.

I completely agree about the customer service. I have a few things I want FRP to evaluate/look over but don't really want to go there because I know it will be close to an all day ordeal.

Before I purchased from FRP my email exchanges with AT were phenomenal. In the end I went with my wallet and sometimes I regret it. Like I said, if you have the coin go with AT.

 

Just bought a used Flip Pac yesterday from a guy in Escondido. It was on his First Gen Tacoma. I have a second gen. Any install advice? I am headed to FRP with it tomorrow for a professional install by them, but I have to get from Temecula to Riverside.

 

We got our FlipPac from Martyn at Adventure Trailers and we really love it. Been tinkering lately with different types of light setups to keep "Household 6" happy without cutting any fabric or drilling into any of the tube hoops.



I've slid them into the fabric sleeves that the metal hoops are in and they fit fine. I found a rheostat to dim them and after a few trial runs I have to say that they work fine except I'll replace them with longer versions that have more LEDs on them since the light is filtered through the tent material sleeve and therefore not as bright as if they were just stuck to the surface. Wired the rheostat to the AT light bolted into the side of the FlipPac.

 

Yesterday I got mine installed at FRP. Yes, they seem outdated there. BUt, they were super helpful and really took the time to install my used 1st Gen onto my 2nd Gen. They were impressed that I got an 8 year old FlipPac for $1500.00 and they were really impressed at how good of condition it is in. It is like new. They told me it would be $265 to install it and make the couple of mods to do so. They really took there time and even though they worked it for 3 hours, there was no extra charge. Then Eddie really took the time to talk to me about how they make them, where there is wood and where there is steel inside the body/framework and how to properly go about mounting an awning or racks on it.

Did you take any measurements before you bought it? Because I'm pretty sure the 1st and 2nd gens have different sized beds.

 

interesting question. because i just bought one and i realized it is an inch shorter to reach the end of the truck bed. i am installing an aluminum bar across it about 4 inches wide hopping to fix the problem. any othe suggestions? txs

 

When I was looking, those flip-pacs were for Nissan beds or early 1st gen tacoma, and people put the alum panel to try and make them fit on toyota, make sure to seal it up or you will get leaks therer.

 

Reviving this thread to see if i can be pointed in the direction of a flippac that's possibly for sale?

 

I know this is super old post but didn't anything ever happen from the top shifting? Just noticed the back of mine has shifted but still latches. Just worried I'm going to put more pressure on on the torsion bar now

 

I used a search all of Craigslist website for a long time and finally found one but had to drive a long distance. Maybe try that out

 

It took me over 3 years to find and acquire one for my shortbed. A few popped up here and there, but some were either more than they cost new, too far away (opposite coast), or I wasn't quick enough to get it. In the end, I showed up with an envelope of cash and didn't mess around.

 

Does anyone with a tacoma flippac have a serial number still visible on the rear door frame/window? I recently backed into a overhang and destroyed my rear window/door glass and frame. I cant find a replacement anywhere, but local camper shell dealers said they can order the door if I can find the serial number. Mine seems to have rubbed off. Any help would be super appreciated!

 

I searched long and hard on my 2015 flippac. I didn't find anything externally. No stamp, no serial number, no marker or scribe. If you find anything out, please post up here. My window is still functional and fine, so if there are any measurements I can provide, let me know.
