The Bull Bar Debate

Wow wasn't expecting to come back to so much feedback! I really like the way the Avid looks, it's just the cost difference making me think twice. And according to the polls I'm seeing that "buying something else" is winning but I don't see any suggestions haha but thanks for the rest of the input!

 

Waste of Money!? How is it a waste of money when i can hit deer with it and keep rolling down the road with no damage? Is your head on straight?

 

No...No you cannot. They offer little if no protection from impact and they often cause more damage than they prevent. They are a aesthetic accessory.

 

i think everybody is so quick to jump on the bandwagon of them being damage multipliers, but i'm sure it depends on the type of collision. in smaller and lower speed ones, i would think they protect more, but in major collisions, they will interfere with the whole way the car is supposed to handle the impact and can cause more damage and injury. Also everything is a waste of money unless it helps our trucks run better, so it's just up to personal preference. i have one, and i look at it everytime i see the front of my car, so i enjoy it

 

I don't know that I would call it a bandwagon. I have seen how the bullbars are made and seen the damage that they can cause. I would call it an educated opinion.

Certainly in a very minor hit, they can save you some damage, but anything more than that they can cause just as much. If you like yours, good for you. I appreciate that everyone has different tastes, but one cannot say that they can fend off deer or major hits with one of these pieces.

It's cool. I kinda figured it was a general statement.

 

Damage from a front collision only. Not roll over, ride side impact, left side impact, right front, left front, right rear, or left rear. When you hit anything head on your going to have damage. Another so called educated opinion.

I put an Aries Bull Bar with skid plate on mine because the first winter I had the truck I pulled into a parking space where the snow had been plowed and the packed snow crushed the bottom of my front bumper. My last truck was a Ram 2500 so I did not realize that the bumper on the Tacoma was that delicate. It seems like they fixed this problem with the 2012 Tacomas. The middle of the new front bumper looks like it is made of sturdier plastic and the sides are raised higher. If the front ever takes a good hit and needs replacing I will definitly put a plate bumper on, but for now the bar with skid plate will have to do.

 

Are we both tslking ARB Bull Bar? Because i have hit deer at 60 + mph with them.

I thought you meant one of the little under bumper mounted bullbars not a full on plate bumper.
