BHLM Mod Help! :( Cant do it!

So yeahh i took off the lights but then ran into a big problem, while i was hexing out the hex screw haha it wouldnt come out well 1 of them, rest of them did except the middle one, i messed up the hex shape from going at it too much do i decided to drill the screw but didnt work either soo all together i just gave up on the BHLM..

So yeah i quit the BHLM..maybe if i find a post on how to do take out screw from headlight then ill go at the BHLM again other than that im donee with this mod

Whether you finish the mod or not, you should remove that screw. Don't let one damn screw waste all your time spent on this.

There are several different options for removing a botched screw all available at Lowes. I like the EZ-Outs. You can also try a reverse drill bit. Or both.

well i'll go look at lowes for the Ez Outs today, i tried the reverse drill bit but didnt work..

Im going to try what veccter recommended with the EZ out thing, so ill tell ya how that goes!

Sorry the BHLM didn't work out YET. You'll try it again and will be super pleased with the results.

 

put a vice grip on the screw... shouldn't be too tight, it's just going into plastic if i remember right.

If all else fails, you could take the light to a local machine shop or auto body shop who will probably remove it for $20.

Don't ask what it would cost to do it. Just offer the $20 and see if they do it. Could probably get it done cheaper if you're nice or know them.


A lot of motorcycle shops are hurting right now because of the economy. They have experience with this stuff and are usually looking for side work like this. Would take them 5 minutes to do.

Those EZ outs are one of the best inventions. Its a must!!! that will definitely get it out for you and they are really easy to use. Dont give up on it man. Once you get it done you will be glad you did no matter how hard it was. Dont let the truck beat u!!!

I would not recommend using any type of penetrating oil (liquid wrench) on plastic applications. You run a risk of permanently damaging the plastic. Penetrating oil is great for most automotive applications where you have corroded bolts/nuts, but is not designed to be used with plastics.

Have you tried taking some vise-grips and grabbing the head of the bolt? You might be able to get a good grip on the bolt head and turn it loose if you squeeze hard enough. Be careful when you try this, the last thing you want to do is break the head off the screw.

 

Well, I'm not sure how Liquid Wrench would affect the plastic. I've never used it on plastic. I'm also not sure why you are having so much trouble with a metal screw stuck in plastic??? A bolt is typically stuck because rust or other gunk builds up in there. The penetrating oil frees the 2 metal surfaces.

Anyway, to use it, spray around the head of a bolt and allow it to set in (usually 5-10 minutes). You can also tap on the screw with something metal to encourage the lube to travel down the bolt. You can spray it on the other side of the bolt if you have access to it.

Another tip for stuck bolts is to try and tighten the bolt a bit to break it loose. Try to go both ways until it is free. You only want to budge the bolt. Going too tight will cause damage or breakage. You just need to break it loose from whatever is holding it in there (rust, loctite, etc).

On metal to metal surfaces, you can also use heat. Unfortunately, this does not help you.

Well the screw wont come out. and i can't get the lens off without it, i removed all plastics on back of headlight and it didnt come out? so now i have to say i give up on the BHLM

 

That sucks man. At you least you have the sense to throw in the towel, rather than damage the lights for good.

You should take a look at the blacked out JDM headlights on ebay. I saw some a few months back for a very reasonable price. + you wont have the chance of fogging causing by poor sealing. You could then turn around and sell your stock headlights, albeit they now have a some slight damage, and recoup some of your cost.

Mayble someone will chime in about the quality, as I do not have any experience with these. As far as looks are concerned, they look good IMO.
