Buying new amp

After a few years of work my amp decided to die
I am looking to upgrade amps to a 4 channel system to upgrade my stock speakers (starting to crack) and use my subs on the same one. I'm not sure what I need to be looking for, I got my system off of a friend that I work with. He had the system for a while then he had kids then I took it off of his hands.

I had an avionixx nxd 2400m pushing 3 10" square L5 Kickers

Looking for a 4 channel to push subs and new speakers.

Any suggestions/ advice?

 

you're going to need a 5 channel amp not a 4 channel.

 

not necessarily.... it all depends on what he wants to do, which he has stated.

Perhaps he only wants front speakers and a single sub - a 4 ch can easily handle that, depending on what sub he uses. Obviously, if he wants to use the 3 L5's, a 4 ch isn't gonna work, or will any 5 ch that I know of - he'd need at least 1,000w running to them to get a respectable amount of movement.

So again, OP needs to tell us what it is he wants to do, and needs to be somewhat specific about it.

 

I'm probably just going to up the front 2 speakers because thats where most of the noise is anyways and I would like to use at least 2 out of the 3subs.

I have 2 Precision Power Class A and they are very clean sounding with Boston Acoustics components in the front

 

If you just want the fronts along with the sub(s), I would recommend that you figure out how much power you need/want for the subs and let that drive your amp needs. The fronts can be powered down via the gains if you find a 4 channel that will work for your subs, but you can't add more power to the subs if you underpower them.

I was using a 4 channel amp (fronts and single sub) and then upgraded to a Kenwood XR-5S and am more then happy with that upgrade. I upgraded as the bridged sub channel off of the 4 channel amp wasn't putting out what I wanted, the Kenwood fixed that.

Not sure what sub output you need, but the XR-5S is good, the Alpine PDX-5 is good, the JL 4 and 5 channels are good, but pricey. Let the high power requirements drive the amp and tune the other channels as necessary.

 

Just curious if you already have the L5's because Kicker doesn't make them anymore and as far as I know you can only buy them used which is sketchy no matter how you do it. You have to downgrade to an L3 or upgrade to an L7.

 

The Alpine PDX-5 has been discontinued, the replacement is the PDX-V9 which has more power, 4x100 and 1x500. I picked up a new one on Ebay for 429.00. Not installed yet as im still getting more components.

 

Honestly I feel like I'm almost reading a new language. So to determine the right amp for me, I need to know what my output is for the subs and new front door speakers. What I dont understand is the whole channels thing, does each speaker/sub get there own?
