I just modified my fogs to stay on with the brights. I didn't want to do the fogs anytime mod because I didn't want to mess with turning my fogs off during the day and then back on at night I just wanted them to come on with my headlights and stay on with my high beams. When I turn on my headlights my fogs come on. When I activate my brights the fogs stay on. Details in my sig for those interested.

That is also an illegal configuration.

Fogs may legally only be on with the low beams, driving lights may only be on with the high beams.

There is a reason that Toyota wired the fogs the way they did.

Im sure nobody else on these forums does anything else illegal like removing their mudflaps, modifying their exhaust out of legal db range, or puts crazy sound systems in their trucks and plays their music way above legal limits

Just putting it out there for those who may not be aware.
Not a big deal in California, but some states have annual safety inspections and I've known people who were failed for having their fogs or driving lights wired improperly.

Would suck for someone to do a free mod that might cost $40 to reverse end up getting failed and late on their registration because of it.

I had a chippie give me shit about the driving lights on my bike... he backed off when he saw they worked only with the high beams.

I'm glad you know the laws in every and all states. I'll state that within Colorado (and any other state I've traveled in which is most) that failure to dim is also against the law. So as long as you dim your lights for oncoming traffic as required by law then this won't be an issue, will it?

This actually is a fair point and one I didn't think of with my previous response. I can see where this may create issues for some who have vehicle inspections. I would imagine that those who have such things wouldn't be interested in such mods though and would know not to go messing with their cars. For that reason I don't think I will add a note to the DIY since I really think that people who live in such states wouldn't even mess with soldering on relays and changing light configuration and such. I personally wouldn't live in such a state. Doesn't sound much like freedom to me.

It's a federal law, so yes, it is the same in all states ;)

I agree... but that's why I mentioned it.
It's going to be a non-issue for most people, but you see it all the time where someone got an idea for a mod from an online forum and didn't know there could be issues and it becomes a problem.

No biggie... my fogs will be similarly wired, though I'm considering adding driving lights and using one dash switch and a relay to automatically switch between fogs and driving lights when I switch to the high beams.

But that would require triggering the fogs from the parking lights, which would allow for the potentially illegal situation of having only the fogs and parking lights on.
In and of itself, that is not illegal... it is only illegal if the fogs are used in place of the low beams. So it's not illegal to drive around using the fogs as a kind of DRL, but if it gets foggy, rains, or dark and I forget to turn the headlights on, I'd be in violation.

    Ya... Rain.
Sounds like common sense, but in California, if it is raining hard enough to need the wipers on continually, you are required to turn on your headlights.

I'm very happy the Taco shuts off the headlights when I open my door :D

I have a rear locker out of a FJ the ring gear is damaged. Was thinking that if it would go in my 08 tacoma I would swap the gears and put it in the tacoma. Does any one know if this is possible.
