This truck is a work truck - not a lot of fancy mod's here, but it's getting the job done!
Just tell him what he told you when you started getting serious with your wife (HIS DAUGHTER) and give him the keys - include the phrase, "make sure to have her back by sundown!" and let it go - your ears will thank you cause you know that this is the very type of thing that keeps coming back year after year to haunt you - middle of fight ten years from now, she'll bring it up and it 'll hit the fan again!

I have a great relationship with my father in law, he can borrow mine any time. One hour or one day, it doesn't matter. I know he will treat it like it is his truck. He has borrowed my truck before (not the Toyota) and everything was fine. He has a truck but it was non-operable at the time.

why not, if he messes it up he pays to fix it, its a truck.
I am confused about him getting BJs and bushes, you need a truck for that?

Most people I know can't drive their own vehicles(most of them cars). No way in hell would I let someone else drive my truck lol.

    Wow!

I can't believe your seriously asking this question. People first, material bullshit second - if you can't keep that priority straight don't be surprised when you're demoted by the people you love.

Doubt he would need it with his F250, Boss V plow, separate rims and tires for studded snows and summer tires, meticulously maintained, Ford; but YUP he can borrow it anytime. It would most probably come back full of gas and cleaner than it left.

The dude backed into my garage door with his truck the first time he came to visit, so I think I would offer to drive him. I personally would never borrow a complex tool or a vehicle from anyone unless it was a dire emergency. A buddy once loaned me his new truck to drive across Texas so I could get back home when my dad suddenly died. I felt horrible borrowing his truck. That is why they rent trucks and trailers and Lowe's.

I once asked the lady who watched my 1 y/o daughter each day while my wife and I went to work if I could borrow her truck one Saturday. She didn't hesitate to say yes w/o even asking why I needed her truck. It was her ONLY vehicle, she was single with 2 kids and she was far from wealthy. What she didn't know is that I needed the truck to pick up her brand new refrigerator (her's had just died and she only had sulfur water to drink from her well). We filled up her truck with gas and I hooked up her new refrigerator (even paid extra for the warranty, water filter and water softener).

Good things happen to good people! Also, good people don't usually ask if they should lend their truck to family - they know the answer.

Such a simple question and so many opinions. Think I keep coming back to "no" just because it opens the door up too wide, next it will be dump runs and all sorts of shit. I don't mind doing it for him or with him when I have the time but right now I can't drive...I have been trying to remember all the excuses I used with my last truck. I managed to have it for five years without him driving it, I just did all the things he asked for.

To answer some of the highlights...

"shrubs" = who knows what else he will be tempted to pick up

No you can't test drive my wife!

I'm surprised that no one so far has made any comments in asking about test driving his wife just a joke.

I don't let anyone drive my truck, I don't even drive my truck it has 0 miles, I bought it to put it in my driveway and wash and wax it everyday so everyone can see how nice and shiny it is, it's a 2005. *sarcasm*....if you didn't pick up on that.

If your father in law has been a dick to you then of course say no. But if you get along then why not, it's just a truck. Realistically it will eventually get dinged anyway by some idiot at Walmart or somewhere else. You will one day sell it for a new car or truck, if you plan to keep it for the rest of your life then good for you, but that is not the norm.

Just tell him to take care of it, park it away from people, don't scuff it up, and if something happens to it while he's using it then tell him it's on his insurance. If he respects you he will do all these things. If you say no, it will be known in your family that you are a dick. Your wife will nag you forever for being a dick, your kids will tell all their friends that you are a dick, your whole town will eventually find out that you are a dick and no one will be your friend...ok it probably won't go that far :D

Enjoy your life, take care of your family and friends and they will take care of you.
