Well it was going to happen sooner or later. Was driving after work when i noticed an accident on my right. i looked briefly out of curiosity and turned back to see a bright set of brake lights in front of me. Unfortunately didn't have enough time to stop. Luckily we weren't going too fast and everyone is ok. I took full responsibility and felt bad that i could have avoided hitting this guy. He was very understanding and wasn't mad at all. So without anymore waiting heres the pics. Feel free to guestimate what you think the damages will be. My guess is insurance will say about $6000 and it will be all said and done at around $9000-10000

What kind of vehicle did you hit? That looks intense. Glad everyone was okay! Gotta mind that rubber-necking a little.

Pretty sure i'm safe from it being totalled. it won't even come close as long as the frame isn't tweaked in a way we can't fix it. i hit an '01 sierra. he needs a new tailgate, bumper, repair on his box side, and probably some pulling time on his hitch and rear frame horns. I'm thinking his will be totalled but he was really good about everything. definitely makes things easier to deal with when people aren't yelling and swearing at you.

Similar damage when I got smacked in my '03 Tundra.
It was close to $9k, but I did need a door skin. My impact was more on the fender and less on the hood. Other than the missing headlight and turn signal, it was completely driveable once I tied the hood down and pulled the plastic away from the tire.

Hood, bumper, bumper cover, passenger all side lights, radiator support, fender, fender liner, door skin.

The hoods are designed to crumble like that for impact absorption. It's a safety feature, if you will...

Ya... but he's a firefighter and he sees this stuff every day.

I think "slow" is a relative term here ;)

I'd even give that a 30-35... and pretty bad at 25.

These things really are lightweight nowadays.

My '93 S-10 Blazer got nailed from behind by a 3500 Dually. He went for the brakes and had nothing, claimed 10mph... I believe him, it was heavy stop and go traffic and he had been fairly close behind me for a few miles. I felt them impact and buried both feet in the brake... felt like being picked up and pushed by a wave.

    Net result:
My Blazer totaled because the spare tire collapsed the tailgate.
My front bumper bent, one broken turn signal from being pushed into a Nissan Versa.
Nissan Versa pushed into a 1st-Gen Tacoma.

Versa crushed at both ends... likely totaled.
Tacoma? Bumper MIGHT have been bent... it was hard to tell, looked like the hitch protected the truck.

hey guys i was going roughly about 30-35 KMS/h at impact.i figured i slowed down a bout 15-20, the speed limit being 70 in that particular area. once again i take full responsibility for causing the accident and am very thankful no one was hurt.

it's true the hoods are supposed to buckle like that. if you open your hood you can see where it is exactly supposed to bend.like toytaco12 said, they're called crumple or crash zones. otherwise you run the risk of your hood shooting straight back through the windshield and decapitating the occupant. for some it may find hard to believe this damage is cause at such low speeds and for others maybe not. i work in a body shop and i've seen a lot worse looking accidents come from lower or less likely circumstances. it all comes down to how exactly everything hits what. most people would think the airbags would go off in a collision like this. but I'm sure as hell glad that they didn't. you just never know, every collision is different.
