What's he drive? What kind of shape is it in? I loan my truck to family and friends who keep their own vehicles nice. If they have dents, dings, scratches on their cars, they don't touch mine. If there's is nice, I trust them with mine.

In your case, since it bothers you, pick him up and take him to the store. It will be a male bonding experience.:D

Good advice. Check out how he treats his own property first. Excellent.

Now that, I laughed at. Infinite wisdom gained by putting up with in-laws that took for years, moved in just to try and takeover and insult us the entire time. They live with my wife's sister now. Yeah baby. :D

    In-law?

Let's put it this way... Even if he were not 90, my own father would not get to borrow my truck.
My own mother would not get to borrow my truck.
My wife MIGHT get to drive it, if for some reason I am incapacitated.
    I don't valet park it.
I don't even like dealer techs driving it.

Do what anyone else in this situation would do: lie. Make up some bullshit story about why you can't lend it out that day. "Dang, I already promised to let so and so use it for such and such..." or "I'm actually droppin it off at the dealership Thursday cause the service engine soon light randomly came on in my new truck...", or something else. Then offer to take him/help/whatever when the shoulder's feelin a little better. If the "shrubs" are so important he can find another way that doesnt put your brand new truck at risk. Screw the family first nonsense. Are those people gonna pay to get the door ding popped out when he brings it back? And you know that if he does pick up a door ding or scratch or whatever you can't ask him to get it fixed because then your wife will give you hell for "making a big deal out of it." I understand your feeling protective of your brand new vehicle, especially if your father in law is some kind of dick and/or clueless about how to handle a pickup. Largest vehicle he's ever driven? All kinds of red flags with that.

It depends on if you trust him. I would let my father in law use mine, but then again, he already owns a truck.

One thing I find curious, is most owners on this site claim they enjoy offroading, and using their truck as a "real truck" etc. and most would be offended if accused of "mallcrawling" yet when hearing the idea of letting someone else use the truck, you all fall apart.

Depends on what kind of relationship you have with him. Personally id let my gf's dad use my truck if he really needed to but then again I trust him with it. Also I have sliders to protect me from those parking lot dings. If you like the guy let him borrow it if not then dont.

Because people almost always treat vehicles they dont own like crap. I scratch or dent my truck darn, it's my truck. Someone eles fucks it up and yeah its a big deal because they probably won't fix it. Car or truck, the shits not cheap to fix. Oh and then they say oh well it's a truck. If I wanted a beater I would not have spent 30k

Yes I would. I've let other people drive my vehicle before. Let my neighbor drive my 4Runner a few months after I bought it.

Shit happens regardless and it's insured.

You are just looking for a :crapstorm: if you say no. Its your wife's father. Next time hopefully your shoulder is ok for you to do the driving.

If it is your beer drinking buddy's dad YES say no. And don't feel bad about it.

Tell him to go to a dealer and test drive a new truck. After he has his "shrubs" home take the truck back and tell them you will think about it.:p
