Just started shopping yesterday. A truck is more of a "want" than a "need", so I am sticking around till I get what I want.

Looking at 2009 Tacoma V6 4dr Double Cab 4WD SB with TRD Off-Road and JBL audio. Color is Magnetic Gray.

    Sticker is $31,239
They came back with $29,998 (before $1,500 rebate) as their initial offer.

Seems like they can do much better. I know they can do much better

Invoice is roughly $28,553 (before $1,500 rebate)
Edmunds TMV is $29,031 (before $1,500 rebate)

I emailed back looking for $27,500 (before $1,500 rebate)

If taken, it'd be $26,000 after rebate, then add on tax/title/fees and stuff. Could be a trade-in involved too (hasn't been discussed yet).

Does my number seem outrageous, or on point? I was pretty firm on stating my price and intentions. If I do this, I am looking to do this sooner than later. I know the economy is in the stinker. Sales are slow, but Toyota isn't that bad. I have not heard back yet.

Was curious as to what everyone else thought.

    Pete (possible near-future Taco owner)

If you can get 27,500 before the rebate you are doing real good, I could only get 28,500 on the same truck

    Heard back.

Dealer stated invoice is $28,897. They came back with $28,700, then tack the $1,500 rebate onto that for $27,200.

Still think I can do better......

Shop around.... get some *dealer wars* going on.

Let 'em know you've got several dealers bidding on you. See which one wins.

Yeh, if I'm doing this, I haven't much time (very busy April, May and June). Good thing is I don't need to do it.

I am not paying more than $27,500 before rebate. Got that number fixed in my head. Let them make the first move if they want to sell a truck.

I have 2 dealers in a war for a 09' Double Cab Sport one says $24,141 with $26,400 OTD the other is at $25,590 before tax, tag, title, fee. I'm waiting on the higher one to respond to see if they want to try and out bid the other.

Do it with e-mail and just FWD what one dealer says to another and ask them if they could do better, it's working for me since both are stickered at $28,000+

Down to $28,300 before rebate. ($26,800 after rebate)

(Krikey, there are a lot of Toyota dealerships around here)

Contacted half a dozen, have heard back from 3. Each has improved on the others numbers.

i know for mine i told them i didnt want the toyoguard protection stuff and the floor mats and they ended up just giving them to me for free bc it was already on the truck and they didnt want to loose the sale. So you might want to try that. Thats about $800 right there you might be able to get off and than you will be right there in your price range.

My brother just bought his truck yesterday. Options are a little different than what you were looking at but sticker was 27,500 and he managed to get it out the door for 24,999. The fleet manager said it was 800 below his invoice so he wasn't making money on the car, fortunately he said he will make a little towards volume sales.

$25,833 after rebate. Nice friendly easy deal at Copeland Toyota in Brockton, MA. Totally forward with no hidden BS, so I stuck with their offer and didn't haggle them anymore since they did what I asked for and I was happy. I do think I got the tonneau cover for free though.

Edit: Can't really do OTD #'s since I traded in my Acura TL-S (which they gave me more for than I expected).

Sounds like a great price on the truck & it looks awesome.

Last weekend I was offered $25,700 for 2009 DC Long bed TRD SPort. Didn't buy it, cause someone here said that I can do better. That price is not including tax and fees.

I'll wait till 4th July sale or end of Summer sale..

I called few places in CT that had Speedway blue color, non could come even close... they were all at least $2k above $25,700.

Just shedding some light out there.

Invoice on the JBL audio is roughly $900. If you minus that from his quote, 27,200 - 900 = 26,300. Essentially he could get your truck for cheaper than you did.
