    What is the universe expanding into? What's on the outside of the universe? Nothing? What is nothing? :annoyed: This atronomy class has my brain hurting.

    People always told me it was expanding into the whiteness... WTF is the whiteness!? My guess is that is is circular and defies our physics. I feel like you could go in a straight line and hit the same place over and over again. I really have absolutely no idea though

    I've always loved astronomy myself. So fascinating knowing how much is out there that we'll never be able to explore or even see.

    I've wanted to get a telescope, something decent enough to actually see stuff and make it worthwhile.

    this is what my professor believes. That everything we know/understand/imagine is confined to our universe. That anything "outside" of the universe is unimaginable. Pretty crazy stuff.

    It is not expanding into anything, space itself is expanding. It is not logical to think of anything outside of the universe for it to be expanding into.

    P.S. A related misconception is that the Big Bang happened somewhere in space. It did not. The Big Bang was an explosion OF SPACE, not in space.
