what psi are you running them at and are they getting noisy as they break in ?

I ask because I'm running the AT's in 305/65/17 and at 35psi, just hit 20k and the noise almost drown's the radio out on the hiway

    Hi sparky,

They are the Pro Comp Xtreme AT's. Last check was at 34psi. So far, they are much quieter than I thought they would be. I would like to deflate them and put nitrogen back in them so I don't have to worry as much about fluctuations. 4WP filled them w/ air, but they used the green tipped stems from my factory setup because of the TPMS.

Hope they stay as quiet as they are now. I have 1k miles on them already. When did you notice the noise getting louder??

It kind of crept up on me, didn't really notice until first rotation, they were silent for about 30mi then the hum came back and has been there ever since

Helped a friend install a ProComp lift on his FJ. In my opinion, the ride was unbelievably stiff and the shock valving was terrible. Lift came of 2 months later for an OME lift. Not sure if the Tacoma lift is any better, but the spring rates seem similar. Maybe the short wheelbase and front/rear coils make the FJ more severe, but it was a tooth rattler!

Not sure which kit you helped installed, but this kit was actually made for the Tacoma and the FJ. It is noticeably stiffer than the factory suspension, but I've lifted way worse before. I will say that the AAL did make the rear a little more rough than I would have liked, but since this kit was quite cheap, I decided to give it a go and get a better one if this one doesn't work out. I'll be on the trails this weekend, so I'll have a better feel as to how stiff this kit actually is in action.

I have this same lift on my truck. I love it. Just this last weekend I did the 140 or so mile off road trip from barstow through lucerne to bigbear then arrowhead. it proved very tough. I was able to keep up with the faster guys for the most part. Without breaking anything I might add. You get a lot for what you pay for. Here's the route we took, and a pic of my truck.

Nice. Sweet ride BTW! I think the kit was definitely worth it so far. We'll see this weekend when I actually get some trail time. It's a very solid kit .... glad I didn't just go as cheap as possible and do spacers and blocks. I've personally seen 2 spacer disasters and want no part of that lol

Work has had me busy last weekend and this weekend, so no fun just yet :(

Next weekend however, me and some friends will be getting together to hit some trails. I've been itching to get it off-road, but it looks like it'll be another week or so before I have any pics. Crawfish boil is scheduled for that afternoon as well, so I hope I make it back in one piece :D

I wanted to follow up on this post for those that were wondering about the lift when put in action. This weekend was a an awesome weekend to be out on the trails. Awesome weather and great time with the family as shown in the pics below.

Ok, so here's what my take on this kit is .... when you get off road, be prepared for a rough ride :) This kit is quite stiff in the front and especially the rear. It performs very well however. We first tested the features offered in the Off-Road package because I have never had a chance to use them and wanted to get use to how you get from 2 HI all the way down to 4LO w/ locked rear and how the A-TRAC performs. Unfortunately, the trails have grown out so much my cousin could not get out and get any pics on them, but we did get some video of me in his pond. :D (see below) My ProComp Xtreme AT's worked ok ... but as you can see from the video, I don't get a lot of dig out of them. Thinking about getting some 33's on my original wheels and keeping them for when I want to get crazy. I must say however, when in 4LO and the rear locked .... it's like night and day between the older Tacoma's. My cousin filming the video has a 1st gen, and he says that his doesn't feel even close to what mine does on the trails.

First, a stroll through his pond :D

    http://youtu.be/qQnzydWCcbI

This is what she looked like after the trails .... and for those without flaps, I would suggest getting them as I have already spent close to $25 in quarters at the carwash with the pressure hose ... still have mud in places I don't seem to be able to find lol

    And the after party ...

    @TackyTaco
Did your front Procomp shocks come with a tapered perch plate for the coil to fit into like the factory shocks do? I purchased this lift and the Es6000 Procomp shocks have a flat perch plate with nowhere for the coil to sit against. This causes the coil to offset from the strut and not sit straight. In picture in the instructions it appears there is a tapered piece on the strut. I'm not sure if i'm missing a piece or what but it just doesn't seem right.
I'm going to contact Procomp but just wondering what you had.
    Thanks

    Hi Jammer,

My struts actually were delayed on their way to me because of this. The original one's that 4WP got had the same problem, so I had to wait on replacements. It was a defect in a batch of shocks made around that time (Late January of this year I believe). I would take them back to a local vendor of ProComp and complain about it.

If you look really close at the pic below, you can see that the back side of the plate starts to taper off so so the coil fits snug into place.

Good luck on getting those corrected!! Kinda hard to believe they wouldn't catch that, but they appeared to have screwed up big time. I wonder how many of these went out??

Thank you for posting this. I have a 2010 that looks like yours and I have been considering the ProComp 3" lift. Definitely getting it now. I was wondering can you run 20" rims under it? If not, I am ok with running the 18's. If I do go with the 18's, can you run a 33" tire? Also, how bad do you have to cut for clearance? Thanks, and AWESOME truck.

I got the BFG KM2s in 255/85/16 (no cutting required with 3" lift) and they work great in water, mud & snow.

Thanks!! And yes, you can fit 20's on the truck if you want ... 33" tires are 33" tires, so you'll just have less tire if you go with 20's on 33"s. If you do serious off-roading, I would go with the 18's so as to not damage the wheel since you'll have less sidewall. But if you don't do any ridiculous stuff like driving through ponds and retarded size mudholes, the 20's look very good on on the Taco :)

I had to do some VERY minor trim work and I'm running 305\60\18's. The trim was done in the front fender wells on the back side (the side where the mud-flaps came off). I had to cut about aninch or so off of the plastic at the bottom of the plastic where the mud-flap covered. (I'll upload a pic to show you what was cut). Other than that, I have noticed one situation where I do rub. It's only when I back up and turn the wheel as far right or left. It barely touches somewhere on the inside, but since it's so lightly rubbing when I cut all the way, I haven't even bothered to look where it happens. No worries other than that!!

That's just what i'm thinking of doing!! I'll take a look at the BFG's ... like them in the posts. Good stuff lol!!
