    Hey All,

First post so bear with me...

I just got my 2012 Tacoma V6 manual 6-speed last week to replace my 2005 4 cylinder 5-speed. I don't like the electronic key fob to open the doors, so I always use my key. it's very frustrating that the passenger side door can't be opened with a key.

Can I have a key installed on the passenger side relatively easily and cheaply? at this point I don't even care if the key matches the driver's side.

    Thanks.

:) You can unlock your passenger side door from your key. You just need to turn your key to right once to unlock the driver's door, and turn the key once again to the right you can unlock the passenger door.

I know that doesn't help if you are on the passenger side, but that is the way that Toyota tries to save a dollar. I don't know if you can add a lock to the passenger side, maybe one from a earlier taco may work.

Wow, crazy. They can spend extra for the driver key to be able to unlock the passenger door but can't put a key hole on the passenger door so you can be all gentlemanly for your lady if not using the fob or if the battery happens to be kaput? FAIL!

Even with the fob working it's nice to escort your lady to her door and even open/shut it for her before going to get in on driver side.

Ya, I'm always approaching the truck from the passenger side (or so it seems) with stuff or the dog that go in that side but have to first walk around the truck to open the door from the driver's side since I don't like the fob - too bulky in my pocket...

They must have changed something...I can open up the passenger door on my 07 with the key. I just stick the key in the passenger door and turn once.

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
Check the base model listing for the door handle. It should have a key for each side. Check to see if the door latch is the same part number. You might need operating rods as well.

Not much on the 07 yet. 18 is gone, but was a greata truck. TRD Pro grill, Gator FX3, Homelink mirror, Black out badges & exhaust tip, Remote start. Future TRD exhaust, skid plate.
My 98 Tacoma had a lock on the gas cap cover. Cutbacks. Toyotas standard practice anymore. I also had a vent window on my 98 access cab. Those are gone too. Miss both of those features.

Odd never knew I didn't have a key hole over there. But sure enough...I don't.

So did you figure this out? I have the same problem. I wonder how a keyed entry would work with the security or noise-making system in the vehicle?

Life is sweet when all you can find to bitch about is carrying a key fob and no key hole in passenger door.

    :p

    Wow!

Can you guys help a new member?
I just bought an '07 Tacoma DoubleCab. I got it from the dealer and it only came with one standard key, no fob and no transmitter type key. The next day I realize the doors can't auto lock/unlock from the drivers side door and as this thread states, despite a key hole on the passenger door, I can't unlock only auto lock from that key hole. Inside the cab the power lock button only allows power lock but not power unlock.
I tried doing that programming code that is like old school Nintendo cheats (open door close door key in key out, etc) that didn't work. So my question is, has anyone else had these problems and know of a solution? Is this because of the missing alarm fob, transmitter key? Or just bad wiring or actuator? I also just noticed my temp/compass doesn't work either. It sucks to be having problems on the second day already, but I'm happy they aren't engine or anything too technical. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There is a fix for your temp/compass thing, do a search.

As far as key, go back to the dealer and tell them you want remote at no charge. It's not your fault they took a truck in trade without it...

Sounds like a lock issue to me, if nothing will lock them. Wonder if the person had an aftermarket alarm installed and did a crappy job uninstalling it??
