Tire reccomendations needed.

2012 TRD Sport.

I am looking to replace the stock tires with a quality all-season tire that has fairly decent snow performance. I do not offroad(unless you consider back-country dirt and gravel roads to be offroading).

On my old Tcoma, I had a set of Goodyear Fortera. These offered much better all-around performance than the stock tires. I have been reserching reviews at tirerack.com. Michelin seems to make a couple of decent all-around,all-season tires but they get very poor performance marks for treadwear and longevity.

Does anyone even make an all-season tire that handles fairly well in snow?

 

I bought a set of Yokohama Geolander A/T-S this winter and they served me very well. Good on the highway and in the snow.

 

Decent snow, and everything else, performance? Firestone Destination AT.

 

The Hankook Dyna Pro A/Ts are good tires too! They did good in the snow and in the rain

Michelin LTX M/S2 or AT2. 70,000 to 100,000 miles. You will not regret getting either Michelin tire.

I have decided on the MIchelin LT MS2 tire. Getting them Friday.

Now, I am wondering if I could sell the Bridgetsone Grandtrek At20 stock tires somewhere. Only have 1,100 miles on them.

The reason I am getting the tires now is I do not like the handling in rain. I am a bit concerned, especially with how they will handle when it snows. I noticed that the back tires like to sometimes spin in the rain, even with moderate pedal use. I know the bed is empty but this is my second Tacoma Access cab and never had this type of handling or spinning issues with tires before. I really do not like the stock tires--bad enough to spend $1K on the Michelins..

 

You're going to love those Michelin's in the rain. Damn near impossible to break them loose when it's wet out.

 

X2. I have the ltx at2. They are great tires and do good in the snow.

 

I chose the Michelin's based on the reviews I read on the net. Hard to find anything negative stated, regardless of the source. It seems to be the #1 selling Light Truck tire for general all-around use, and that is pretty much what I want. I was going to go with the Fortera Tripletread after having them in the past but want to try the Michelins this time. They are priced the same.

If what people are reporting is true--70-80,000 miles typical treadlife, I will be happy.

The stock Bridgestones are not terrible in dry conditions and not a bad stock tire in that regards. They just seem squirelly on anything but dry pavement. Three times already this week in the rain, my tires have spun when starting from a stop and not even starting out at hig revs. I don't drive aggressivley and that is what concerns me about this tires and how they act.

 

No one on here wants the stock tires. But putting them up for sale on craigslist is your best bet. They are a common size for other vehicles as well. I got 450 for mine, but it was a good time as snow started to fall and everyone was looking to but tires. This a rare though.

the LTX AT2's are a great AT. Never lost traction in the rain, unlike the KM2's i'm running now....

I was able to sell my Dunlop Grandtreks for $300, when I bought my Michelins M/S2s. I knew after driving 50 feet that I had made the right choice. It felt like a totally different truck. I was like you, I had 1300 miles on the Dunlops and they scared me to drive on them. I figure I save $30 a month in not having to buy new underwear after each drive on the Dunlops.

I chose to jump a size and went with 265X70R-16. This is near identical height and will not affect your speedometer, no clearance issues.

 

Can't argue on the Dynapro ATM's! Great tire, great buy!

 

Wrangler Silent Armors, they are a little spendy but wear good and have great traction on snow and ice, I rarely need 4 wheel drive unless it is really deep snow or going up a steep icy hill.

Got the LTX MS2 today. Tire place was trying to charge me a disposal fee even though I was taking my stock tires with me.

The difference in handling is pretty noticeable just driving home. Very quiet and mellow tire. I am surprised, as I thought these were going to be on the stiff and aggressive side. Lost some of the jiggly character of the stock ride. Not as much small bounce or cachunks going over mancovers or potholes. Definitely a more sedan-like character to the tire. Hard to believe it is a truck tire.

Real test will be when it gets slick outside.

 

I use the word "Confidence" when speaking of the Michelins on my truck. You will be impressed in the rain.
