I asked the wife and she did not say go and get one. LOL And then again she did not say no. I think she needs time to think about the $700 cost over the original price we looked at.

I will say that of all the bikes I have test driven the Rans was the most comfortable with the smoothest shifting between gears. The leg extension is just like the recumbent in the gym with a seat to match.

 

Pretty pricey, but I really think they are a good investment. I still have the bike I got in 1971, and still use it once in a while. I've gotten two others since then, and I have ridden close to 1000 miles just this year so far. At 56, I don't think I've ever been in better shape than I am now. Think of it as an investment in long term health, better than a gym membership. Here is my latest purchase, just got it last week.

Very nice. I like the rack and bag. Makes it nice for the quick trip to the store.

What make and model is the bike?

Another theme that I keep reading is that a better quality bike with a better drivetrain and higher quality wheels will not only last longer but be less expensive to maintain if you plan on a lot of use.

Do you use an on board computer to keep track of time and mileage? If so what brand and model do you have?

Another bit of information I keep reading is that if the bike is comfortable to you then it will be used more often, which is what I am looking for in the bike.

I tore the house apart looking for keys to two Kryptonite bike locks. I found two keys to the same lock. I hate lost keys.

 

my recent research has all been on mtn bikes, i have no road bike knowledge. I do have a lady schwin from the 80s that i plan on taking to the bike shop today so i can do more road miles and not wear out my mtn bike tires.

 

Hello Garage. I'm back ... just felt like taking a break for a while. why, just felt I was spending too much time on here. So I stayed away for a while. Does that make any sense?

Actually that is good input, that you want to ride more of a road bike for the daily errands to keep the miles off the mtn bike. A better smoother ride on the pavement I am sure.

I'm feeling amazingly well after that growler of beer last night. I got a few dirty looks from the wife for drinking it all. I told her that the bottle said to "drink as soon as possible".

Yep, it went over really well, so well that I got "the look"

 

I guess the front shock could absorb the bumbs in the road that a road bike wouldnt and the higher sidewalled tires soak up more bumps. My bike has a lockout for the front fork tho so when on road i dont use it at all. The gearing, seat position and rolling resistance are what make me want to ride a different bike on road. Once im in better shape tho i bet i wont mind as much

The shock actually absorbs some of the energy when you pedal. If you lock it out when on road, you won't use quite as much energy.

Exactly thats why i lock it on road... but for comfort purposes it could be beneficial
