Tacoma and E85

have there been any conversations about tacomas being E85 (ethanol) friendly? I know GE just put alot of money into research and development of E85 and i wanted to know if my 07 taco would be able to use this fuel when it starts getting more popular? If not, are there any aftermarket mods that can make the truck use ethanol?

 

It might not be something you need to worry about. As the cost of ethanol production keeps going up there's less incentive to market it. Apparently it also takes more energy to produce the stuff than it actually yields which isn't mentioned by enviornmentalists.

Even if you could, you pay nearly the same price at the pump to lose 30% of you mpg.

E10 is fine and is being used in alot states, expect a 5-8% mpg drop with that.

 

Bingo. This only holds true for corn ethanol, however. If they perfect the technology on switchgrass, it will be much different, something like 1 gallon to produce vs. 15+ gallons of yield.

 

yea i read about GM putting money into the research on teh switchgrass and other lawn garbage. what is E10? will that work in the tacoma?

 

E10 is the 10% ethanol 90% gas blend that's now sold in all gas stations (At least in New England). It's supposed to be safe for use in all engines designed for gasoline.

It seems fine for cars but it's caused issues in marine engines where it has done fun things.... like disolving the resin out of molded fuel tanks which ends up on the valves or absorbing enough moisture that it seperates from the gasoline leaving gasoline that has too low an octane for the engine to run.
