Hey everyone, first of all I know there a lot of threads out there on these topics and I have spent a very long time reading through all of them. Most everybody feel like this is a better way to go instead of a set of halo angel eye headlights (which I am a fan of how they look). I think I can do do the retro fit and BHLM mod myself but I have some questions.

First: Does painting the stock chrome reflector black change the light output/ reflection?

Second: Which projectors are better or perform better, the FX-R or the morimoto minis?

Third: Whats the best shroud to use?

Fourth: Is it worth it to get another pair of stock headlights or a set that already has the BHLM done to do this on before I chop up my headlights?

Thanks I Look forward to the responses!

1st: Painting the stock reflector has no effect on light output after a retrofit.

    2nd: FX-R's and it's not close

3rd: Depends on your taste, most on here use either Apollo or Gatling Gun

4th: Yes, definitely. That way you can take your time and do it right.

Thanks guys, I just picked up a set of stock headlights from work (free :D). They are off of my parts managers truck from when he wrecked it. One of the lights is perfect and one has a broken tab but I was able to get a replacement tab for it. Everything else is perfect on both of them. I figured I would use these ones to do the retro fit. By all the research Ive done Ill probably go with the FXR's with gatling gun shrouds. I already have 8000k 35w HID's in my stock housings.

How do you guys feel about the angel eyes? I like them but Im not sure what size or if they will fit with the gatling shrouds... also are they easy to install?

Any ideas on the paint to use and what I should do to prep for painting?

Free headlights below (not a good picture)

I dig the angel eyes, when i did my first retro I put them on. If you're ordering from TRS all you have to do is check "yes" on angel eyes and they'll send you the right size depending on what shroud you pick. The install is a little bit of a pain because you have to decide how you're going to attach them to the shroud; I did suture that I stole from work and tied them from inside of the shroud, others have used adhesive/silicone to attach them to the outside of the shroud.

As far as painting goes, sand as much chrome as you can off of the bezel (without crazy...i only spent about 30min-1hour sanding) and hit it with a couple of coats of duplicolor adhesion promoter followed by krylon fusion (matte or satin finish, whatever you want). Let these dry for A WHILE...if you seal the bezels inside of the headlights too early they'll offgas inside of the headlight and it'll look all effed up.

You can also go the route of preburning them in your oven after you paint them to get rid of the fumes...

Good luck. Just read read read before you start, and TAKE YOUR TIME. A rushed retro comes out like poo, one that you take your time on and are meticulous doing will come out excellent.

I have to agree with him man, if anything use your stocks so if these break while they're on your truck well at least they're not your good ones.
I looked at Iceman's retrofits. His angel eyes look pretty good and Im actually considering them but I lean towards no angel's since they tend to fuck up.

I was also wondering what size MORIMOTO XBALED ANGEL EYES will fit on the outside of the gatling gun shrouds? ....how long and how hot would you preburn them in the oven after painted?? or should I let it dry for like a week??

Love mine, I painted mine completely black, not just the BHLM. Also I have the halos and they are a nice added feature.

Here is a photo, sorry for the reflection off the light.

I agree with you on all but the 2nd answer. Upgraded D2S or H1 are very, very close to the FX-R.
