2x4 to 4x4....????

Im wondering if there is anyone out there that has either thought about or attempted a 2x4 to 4x4. I was thinking about trying to find a totaled 4x4 and rob everything i need to swap, Front Axel/suspension, front and rear drive shaft, Transfer case, cabin switches and anything else i need.
what do yalll think?
would it be worth it?
would it come out right, or screw my truck up?

I have heard its expensive to do it for a 2nd gen tacoma because you need all the computer stuff or something. Someone else can chime in thought.

If you are confident in your skills and are mechanically inclined I think you could pull it off, several guys have done this to 1st gen Tacoma's and the trucks before and such. Personally since it's a newer truck I'd sell it and try to find a 4X4 I liked. Good luck!

It can be done. I've done it to a 4th gen 4Runner and it came out very nice. The 2nd gen Tacoma would be just as simple. I would not use the factory t case from the Tacoma with this swap though as it would require a ton of electronic non-sense to get it to function correctly. You can use the FJ Cruiser t case instead.

It's not cheap and unless you have a bunch of money invested in your prerunner now I would sell it and then buy a 4x4. that being said, turning your 4x2 into a 4x4 is not hard at all.
