I hit a deer :(

Well last night I hit a medium size deer going at least 40 mph. I saw it on the right side of my truck and I hit the brakes knowing it would dart out and it did and I couldnt even slow down enough to avoid getting damage. I took my truck to the Toyota body shop and the estimate for cosmetic damage is around 1100 and probably will be more because they couldnt see the damage behind the bumper. I am happy that I had the bull bar on the truck because the bullbar saved my truck from having more damage, and far the body can tell the bull bar is not bent and I can keep it, the spot lights still work, and one of my head lights is cracked where it gets screwed in. Only light that did break is one of my fog lights. I give props to Toyota for making a truck built like a sherman tank! I have pics and I'm upset to see my truck like this and how it happened so quick. here are some pics

Man, that sucks! Yeah that bull bar did save you! At least your truck is still drivable, and it didn't destroy your radiator. Than you'd have more problems!

I know right, Im lucky i didnt hit a buck with antlers because then i would run the chance of having holes in my front end

It looks like the bull bar is bent into the bumper. Once the bumper is repaired the bull bar might need to be bent down or out to fit back on.

 

Thats what I thought, but the body shop says its okay but im not taking thier word for it right now, they did say they can fix the bumper and put it back on, i dont think it will be the same

 

That sucks Colin. I nearly hit a deer last night coming home around 1am. Damn thing darted out in front of the truck from behind some shrubbery or some other such shit. I ended up lockin the brakes up and was within 5 feet of hitting the damn thing @ 42ish mph. Damage on your truck aint to bad though. Probably the least damage I have ever scene from a deer colision.

Are you gonna go back to the stock bumper or are you thinkin bout upgrading?

 

Good think the antlers have most likely been shed, because it very well could have been a buck!

 

Thank God you didnt hit the dear! I saw the deer and slammed on the brakes but it wasnt good enough. I guess the damage aint bad, but one thing for sure is the bull bar took the full blow of the damn deer. As for bumpers, i'm hoping I'll get a new one because the black grill part of the bumper is pushed in and all messed up because the spot light got jammed into it, but my brother came up with the idea of me getting an ARB bumper, I'm not sure if i need that lol

 

If insurance is helping you out I would go for it! My friend totaled his car on a deer, I am still not sure how he survived. IT was in the WVA mountains and he hit it and wound up on an exit ramp across a ravine in a shredded car. Walked out without a scratch.

Moral: It could have been much worse and we are all happy to see you and much less the taco are in decent condition!

 

Damn thats lucky for your friend. My dad says he just wants to pay for the damage outta pocket so the rates and shit like that dont go up

 

Ya, I have always thought chrome only looked good on your color and black tacomas. I have never been a huge fan of bull bars but man did it come in handy there! Where i live we have the worst deer overpopulation in the country so this makes me consider

Yeah I think so too, If your in an over populated deer area than it may be a wise thing to get some front end protection

 

You got lucky with only that amount of damage!

 

Go for an aftermarket bumper man. More protection, ability to add a winch, and they just look badass. An is $899 before shipping.

 

Yeah it does suck, when i first hit the deer i did not know what to expect, but bull bar or not Tacomas are strong and can take a deer hit like a champ
