I live in the desert and summer is coming so I've been looking into buying a sunshade to help keep the taco cooler. I don't want a 10 dollar autozone cheepo shade, I want something that works and will last. I've narrowed it down to 2 choices:

    http://www.eclipsesunshades.net/

    or

    http://www.covercraft.com/windshield_heat_shield.htm
(the UVS100 custom fit for Tacoma)

These two seem to be the cream of the crop as far as sunshades go. The first one (Eclipse) mounts on both sides of the windshield and then you pull both sides to meet in the middle. The second one (covercraft UVS100) is a high quality custom fitted fold up style sunshade that functions just like any other but is built to last and supposedly keeps out more heat than a normal sunshade.

What are your opinions on these? Does anyone know of a better option? Am I crazy for looking this far into a sunshade?

dont know much about these...but is the first a permanent mount type of thing? If so, I'd say no on that one because we already have a limited viewing window through the windshield. (i.e. the low mounted rear view mirror)

I had one like the UVS100 for my M3. Awesome shade. Now I just have something that I picked up at pep boys for like 20 bux. Works just as well although doesnt fit as perfectly obviously. I'd probably opt for the UVS one if I were in the market for one again.

I recently ordered the UVS 100 for the taco. I have to kick her out of the garage to make room for the new edition a 2000 Camaro SS. :burnrubber:

I have one I got from Autozone a few years ago for my 330i. It's thick like the UVS100 so it does not sag or get hot. It is quite large so it really covers the windshield. It blocked the sun great. I love it. I'll have to see if it fits my Taco since I sold my 330i.
I don't want to permanently mount something that can cause further loss of field of vision so I personally would not want the 1st one.

The first one (eclipse) isn't permanent. It mounts to the windshield via two mounting clips with adhesive and the whole thing can be removed during winter while the mounting clips remain. Looks like it'll take up about an inch or so on both sides of the windshield.

Looks like they both cost about 50 bucks and both offer very good protection against the sun and heat. Both seem like high quality. Just really a question of ease of use and storage. Wish I could find one that installed at the very edge of the headliner and pulled down or vise versa. Hopefully someone here has some experience with either...

I had the foldup type UVS100 for about 5 years on a Rav 4 and now on my 2011 Taco. The thing fits the windshield like a glove and is very durable. Highly recommend it.

Hmm, can you post some pictures of it in your truck when you receive it and post up a little review of the fitment and how well it works?

I see Truckaddons.com has Covercraft items on their site, maybe we can work a group buy or something if we can get a few people to order them because they are made to order? Maybe Scott @ TAO can chime in on that possibility.

I have the cheap piece of crap shiny silver one from any auto parts store and it is awesome, they all do the same job. A piece of cardboard with aluminum foil on it would work.

I've had generic AutoZone shades before and they usually don't last long and fit like shit. Thanks for your input though. Move along now.

Me - I like those $10 ones w/the wire frame edges. Grab that shit and give it a twist and stuff it into the seatback pocket and go.

^Exactly. Folks throw their money away too easily around here. Great for the economy, though.

I have the Eclipse in both my Toyotas. We use them more because they are there attacked near the pillars. Best shade out there IMO.

just tint the windows. it will help screw the shade things for windshield. not trying to hate but to me it point less and just something els you have to deal with. and keep in truck and find a place for it.

no i know it’s not save!! the dealer i got my truck at has legal windshield tint. also they have just UV blocking film(or something like that) that is not tinted.

idk but everyone that i know that has used them including my parents stop after a bit because they all get annoyed with having to deal with it before they get out and when they get back in. brother used one and hated it as well.

yeah i thought about getting mine done. it’s money money but idk.. it is legal in TN.

oh. sides can’t be done either in cali.

we can get 35% an the front side’s but i think me and my brother are both going with 15% all around and 5% strip on windshield. seams like alot on here say it’s stupid and the visors cover more but i say no. we can have a 6” strip.
