Just a bunch of old crap
    My $.02 about All-Pro

For the record, I have the plate front bumper, IFS skid, and rear bumper.
    • Got in on their group buy a year ago and saved hundreds.
    • I jack my truck up by my IFS skid all the time and you can't even tell. No flex, no creaking, nothing. I would trust this to protect where it is supposed to.
    • I have always loved the chiseled, bolted, machine-like look. To me it is a much edgier design than the solid-piece competitors. It's one of the primary reasons I chose it, besides being able to hold a winch, give me approach angles, recovery points, etc.
    • Winch mounting is fantastic. Plenty of room to reach in to access the switch on my Warn M8000 and I like the inside anchor point for my winch cable
    • Haven't tried using my Hi-Lift on the recovery points of either bumper yet. That's what I have sliders for (Avid, but that's besides the point).
I wheel hard, but smart. I don't fly down trails like I have a rally car. I have a heavier-than-stock truck that is also my daily driver, so I take care of it. I climb crazy angles, go through deep sand and mud that leaves others stuck, and can manipulate over the oddest and most uneven of surfaces. I've never had to test my bumpers out against a tree or obstacle because I watch my tire placement and my speed. I plan ahead. IMO, any bumper will fail when put to the tree test, just to varying degrees. Regardless, all will need some sort of repair or replacement.

I do see the bolt-together design as being flawed, though. However, for a little extra $$ at my local fabricator, I'm seriously considering having them weld the 3 sections together as one, leave me with the bolt-together look, and also weld this bitch to the frame directly. I have very little faith that the factory front bumper brackets can take any abuse at all, and I'd rather not take the chance of ripping this heavy bumper off of the mounts while I'm winching myself out of a tight spot. But, ANY bumper out there, if not properly reinforced for such activities, would have the same failure.

My bumpers are heavier than I expected they would be. I'm very happy with the thickness of materials. I live in AZ, so rust is not an issue. I had mine shipped bare and I had them thermal coated locally because I like the texture better than powdercoat.

Service was great and I was always well-taken care of. When we had the group buy, there were some parts that were backordered for a couple weeks. I work for a major electronics distributor and deal with over 350 vendors all of the time, so I have the patience and understanding to know that a reseller is at the mercy of the manufacturer many times. I had no problem waiting the extra time to receive my products.

I love the look of my bumpers, and so do others. I receive compliments all of the time about it, both on and off the trail.

Any questions? I'd be happy to answer them about the All-Pro products I own.

Is not the arrow clickable that leads to the entire thread?

To be fair, there has been a lot of redesigning since those times. What worries me is that those products ever made it out the door in the first place.

I saw this with my own eyes, no word-of-mouth required.

Good to hear you're coming around :D;)

    Fair enough.

I think maybe I wasn't clear - no one's flooring it down trails. The "bad experiences" I've seen happened during what anyone would term normal wheeling when armor was expected to be used.

I understand the idea of not being heavier than you have to, but if your products are failing under normal usage, you're not as heavy as you need to be.

Agreed. But that certainly doesn't mean armor on a Taco won't get used, and used hard.

Not sure about that myself. But hide your phone. It'll save us time once I get there.

Front Aluminum bumper by Relentless Fab. Smittybuilt Winch Complete set of skids by ATO TC UCA's Fox Ext. Travel Front Reservoirs.
I understand what your saying, but I think what your describing is not an issue of quality but of misuse. the issue with a skid is a simple matter of material and thickness.

Lets be honest, a skid design is not rocket science so it would be fair to
say the failure you describe is not one of design. Correct? However your complaint is that the skid deforms upon impact. So that means the impact was greater than the tinsel strength of the metal used, correct?

So you either need to lessen the impact or increase the material thickness, neither of which is a quality issue. If you want a product to take a certain amount of impact you need to size the metal appropriately or it will fail. ATO skids will fail as well given a large enough impact, its just metal.

Allpro appears to design their skids to offer enhanced protection over stock, while keeping weight in mind. It appears from folks who have spoken up in this thread, that they perform as expected for the size metal used.

I think a fair statement for you to use is simply that you desire an even greater impact resistant thickness of metal and are willing to sacrifice weigh to get it. Those that buy allpro armor and are happy with it have sized their skids appropriately, your friends that bent their skids, did not. Thats it.

I will use myself as an example. I bought a relentless fab front bumper. But I had it built in all aluminum because light weight was more important to me than impact resistance. Now if I ram it into a tree and it bends does that mean the bumper is of poor quality? Would it hold up under "normal trail use" We shall see, but I chose what I chose for my own reasons and have no plans of smashing it into rocks or trees. Could it happen? yes? will it bend? maybe. Is that Relentless Fab's fault if it does? No.
