What's up with all the hate for All-Pro?

And it is a pretty poor choice for rock crawling skids. It is too soft and tends to "stick" to the rocks. Many are going to UHMW plastic with a aluminum or steel frame backing.

Just throwing this out there, my BB (not aluminum) skids after about 5 years of landing on rocks:

this is true and there are better choices if you wish to keep the weight down & have actual protection and a stable platform to winch from.

i won't mention any fabricators by name but, most know who the first name would be

 

How thick is the plastic ? 3/4" ?

& OK so it sticks to rocks, get the teflon coated "no stick" skids.....

 

3/8 to 1/2. You need a pretty strong skeleton behind it, but it is supposed to work and hold up really well and if designed properly save some weight.

 

That stuff is really dense and strong , I've had some experience milling it before

 

I didn't mean soft like it will bend, I meant soft for things to dig in to.

I never thought of the teflon coating. You might have a million dollar idea there.

 

I have used it to make bushings when I worked at the machine shop. Impressive material.

 

We've built jig components / tablesaw runners from it

but on a serious note, one bad thing about aluminum is you can't bend it back, it just breaks.

 

Shit the last million dollar idea I had only cost me about $500

 

THis conversation makes me want to revisit my plan to make a set of skids using my Bud Builts as a template. Hmm, off to McMasterCarr.com

 

The last one I had got lost when I sobered up.

 

i can attest to their skid plates not being stout enough iirc they are 7mm thick while others are 1/4 inch thick that makes a huge difference in durability.

lol those that know me would laugh at this cause i'm not even rough on my truck but my all oro high clearance has a nice little dent now from some light trails. i have seen others in person that i know have been bashed for years and the only signs of wear they show is cosmetic no actual dents or holes.

as far as customer service goes they are great to deal with my order was correct and arrived ahead of its scheduled delivery date. everyone i spoke with was polite and well informed. imo they just need to revamp some products & include some better design features into them.
