General Grabber at2, nitto terra grappler, toyo opencountry a/t

So ive been looking around for some new tires that would last long, not kill the gas, perform great off road, and not take all my cash! I've settled on 3 tires that i could get for a good deal...
General Grabber at2-- 188.88 each
Nitto Terra Grappler-- 196.58 each
Toyo Open Country a/t-- 192.85 each
The prices are so close they dont matter at this point, so now i'm asking which one? I wanna know from those who either currently have or have had, and if you can include how the treadwear is and ESPECIALLY the off-roading capabilities..i know they arent mudterrains but lemme know how they do in the mud. Pics would be great if you have any! Thanks in advance!

 

What size were you looking at?

 

I have had the nittos for around 6,000 miles. I was very impressed with the traction. I haven't been it to much mud but it snow I have never had a tire that was better.( this is my third truck). I didn't see much change with gas milage or road noise. They are wearing fine nothing out of the usual. I drive mainly high way to work. I have 265/70/17. Should have waited to get tires after I lifted the truck I could have gone bigger.

 

So far I'm impressed with my general.

I would be interested in knowing how the AT2's wear in the long run. I had a set of 31's on my '99. They were indeed soft.

 

They do seem soft, but we'll see. They say 60000 mi. I probably won't keep em that long anyway. Either way, I think they look as good or better than the other 2 choices.

 

had a pair of nittos.... they are the fastest wearing tires ive ever owned. toyos are great but grabbers are more aggressive in my opinion.... grabbers it is

 

I've got about 5K miles on my Generals right now...I love em so far - great tires and no humming

 

10K miles on mine and impressed so far. Without putting a brand new tire beside mine, I cant really see that they've worn much. Aggressive, and ride great. Mine are 265 70 16.

 

i have only had nittos out of the ones u mentioned, and they did their job in some of the worse situations ive been in when it was raining, with slippery ass mud, and going up hill, and im only 2WD, but i hav a rear locker, and i was aired down, way down, but they got me home safe and damaged less, only thing i dont like is the wear, but everything else is more than legit

 

I ran a set of Toyo AT's for 45k miles. They still had life on them when I changed them out. They performed well in most situations. Off cousre not the best mud tire. But I did some pretty tough rock crawling and they did great. I sliced up the tread and sidewalls and they held strong with no issues. I ran them at 10 psi in the rocks, sand, you name it and was very pleased. I also took a trip to Lake Tahoe in 2011 when the got several feet of snow. The Toyo's kicked ass in the snow.

I would reccomend the Toyo's to anyone looking for a good AT.

That being said, now I'm running a set of BFG Muds that I pick up used for a good price, $250 for a set of 33's with 60%+ tread, couldn't pass that up. When the BFG's wear out I considering GY Duratracs. Just to try something different.

Had the Toyos and was not overly impressed. Had BFG ATs and now run the Generals. Generals are far superior to the Nittos and the Toyos for off-road and tread wear.

 

The AT2s are on National back-order, for almost all sizes. I almost went with that tire but after calling and checking three different sites, they have no date to be back in stock.

 

Again? I bought a set of 31x10.5x15 some 2 years ago and was told the same thing. My tire guy found a set from one of his suppliers. 2 sets actually, the first set was junk (wouldn't balance) second was good.

I had Nitto TG's on my Tundra and really liked them , wear wasn't the best but on/off road traction and road noise was great. I've only heard good things about the AT2's I may have to give them a try since I'm in the market for some 18's. I was planning on going with BFG's AT's but they run about $250.00 a tire. I like the price you found for the AT2's.

 

i did too, but theyre on backorder until who knows when, and i'm in desperate need of some tires. i found a good deal on some bfg's so i'm just gonna settle for them
