Thread of Wheels that definitely work (first hand knowledge only)

So I am looking to put wheels on my new 2012 4x4 Tacoma. Can someone confirm that American Racing Ledge AX188 16x8, 6x5.5 off set, 4.5" backspacing will work? There is talk that some 16" rims interfere with the brake calipers, so not all 16" rims work. Also, feel free to post what wheels you know personally work. Thanks

well first off, is your truck a TRD sport or offroad?? if not, then u dont have any worries cuz ur truck prob. came with 16's stock..I have an 05' sport that came with 17's stock and hardly any 16's fit (dont listen to the wheel manufacturer, they are often WRONG) i have the wheelersoffroad black steelies in a 16 x 8 with 4" backspace and that was 1 of the only wheels that would fit. I think there a few others out there, but not much option when going down to a 16 if u already have a 17...just check around

 

There's no difference in the sport and offroad as far as wheel fitment.

u know what i was getting at. basically just saying 16's are hard to clear brake calipers on a sport like mine THAT HAD 17's stock

 

^ Incorrect. The TRD Sport and TRD Off Road have the same brake calipers.

Which is wrong. They have the same calipers, so there's nothing different. If that's what your rim guy told you, you should find a new cause he threw you threw a hoop...There are plenty of 16's that will fit. There are even people running 15's. Yes, you should check clearance, but most will fit from what I've seen.

 

jesus christ people, i dont care about the diff. in sport in offroad versions. all im trying to say is that THERE ARE ISSUES with some 16's rubbing if U HAD A 17 to begin with. I experienced this. look around on this forum.

Moto Metal 951 16x8 0 os 4.5 bs fit perfect. But I know there was a thread on here where someone had the same specs on a different wheel that wouldn't fit.

 

who cares what you had to begin with? if a 16 doesnt fit on a sport...it wont fit the offroad....i have 16s on my sport

 

There are issues with some rubbing regardless of whether you had 17's or not. Your starting rim size is irrelevant, and attempting to educate people that it is is grounds for and

I currently have stock rims. You are the one that informed me to search this forum and find the issues you speak of. I am merely stating that I have seen people on here that are running 15" rims.

I believe they only fit on 5luggers without mods tho

 

16" can rub even if you had a 16" to begin with, too.

Besides, the OP has a regular cab, which means it doesn't have 17" to begin with.

 

What color is your regular cab? I have read that it makes a difference and you may not be able to fit anything smaller than a 22" rim... So Jesus Christ, you better get a 24" just in case!
