How are stock flares attached?

Not sure. It'd be handy to know though. I can see me ripping on off a bit goin through the woods....

 

They are attached by plastic clips. They come loose easly.

I purchased some aftermarket clips to fix mine but it is still loose.

 

On my 04 the clips break when you remove the flare, $1.50 ea from dealer to replace and the dealer ones hold tight.

 

they're held on by a series of orange and blue clips. i think the blue ones are about $1.50 and the orange ones are about $5.50 give or take.. but if you take it off to change the clips be prepared to break more.

 

both are correct.

 

Ya the clips are pretty weak, i have a couple broken ones on the drivers side so the fender isn't snug to the body. Might have to bite the bullet and rip them off and replace clips soon

 

there is orange and blue clips, the color depends on where on flare it goes,

i took off my flares, broke none on the back, broke 1 orange and one blue on the front....oh well its still snug

 

Great info I need to pull the flare off my son's 09 Left rear to replace it.
Any info on colors needed to do this one?
Anyone do a how to on the removal and reinstall?
I have never pulled one before and looks like a bit of a pain!

 

you have to go in behind the flare and pinch the clip. then pull or push it out

Took mine off the other day because I busted some clips in the dunes. The holes are rectangular and so are the clips. They are inserted then twisted so they lock. The best way to do it is to take the fender wall out and twist them from the inside of the body panel.


Of course I realized all this AFTER I got annoyed and just ripped the whole fender off haha.

 

Your fender liner will be in the way so you'll have to remove the screws holding on the flare from the bottom then get a plastic putty knife or something under the edge of the flare and just pull. You pretty well just have to rip them off. You will break clips. They are pretty expensive. I suggest ordering online. Fastenal also carries clips but they don't stock vary many at a time and I've found the toyota ones to be a better fit, but more $$$.

Which is total pain in the ass. Sort of glad I got rid of those fucking things. Then again I want to find a way to put them back in.

 

When I painted the box on my trk and replaced them its a good idea to diagram where the color clip goes, then instead of inserting the clip into the body I think it would be easier to slip it onto the flare.
