Jerry Cans

With that law about fuel cans year ago they had to quit making the older style jerry cans. The newer style sucks because they leak and are still expensive. It is very hard to find the older style jerry cans and when you do, they are pretty damn expensive.

For those of you who need or want a few jerry cans, check these out. I recently bought 2 with the fuel spout and they work great. No leaking at all and can be had at a great price!

This place is pretty cool, tons of off the wall chit. Actually stopped by their place of business during a funeral trip (grandma) and picked up a nice pair of RedWing shoes for cheap...

 

Why did they stop making the old style jerry cans?

 

CARB laws. All states adopted the California regs.

 

Probably cost.
These new cans are just two pieces of stamped steel that are seamed together. The old cans were a fairly complex design.
The old cans may have been economical when they could be sold to the public, but with the EPA requiring the new design, that killed that market.

I've heard mixed reviews on these cans though. More than a few people have told me that they don't hold up and will leak at the seams.

My new one leaked at the seams, so I had to return it. Waste of time and money. Also, due to the spout, more gas dripped into the ground than went into my tank. Grrrrr...

Scepter ships non CARB cans to the US ?

 

I dunno, I haven't had a need to ship to the USA. I posted it because that's the company that supplies jerry cans for the canadian forces.

 

You can get non-CARB cans under the guise of "utility jugs"

 

Scepter cans are awesome , interestingly , we can also buy non CARB RotoPax cans too

Someone be the guinea pig and buy one from this guy. I'm curious to see if the condition of them is any good.

 

Those are the same ones we had in the Army. Driving all around Afghanistan offroading, these leak like hell. Maybe good for a daily driver that doesn't offroad, but I wouldn't put these on an offroad truck.

 

The Scepters ?

 

I've been using them with my military trucks for the last 5 years, including in Afghan. Never had a problem except for sometimes the lids are easy to cross thread.
