Incorrect. Walleye is better than crappie for sure. My palate must be jacked up or something because all of the panfish taste pretty much the same to me...

My family has a cabin in Minnesota and I have caught them around 1.5lbs from time to time. They pretty much are a bluegill/lg mouth mix really

 

There's only a couple of bodies around me here that have decent walleye waters. Everything is pretty much trout.

And OP, just to not be a complete tool I will answer your question. First off, what is your current setup? JBL or not? Also, what is your budget?

 

It's possible he's not familiar. Pretty hard to catch, but damn good tasting.

And Tiger Muskie are big in Minnesota. Very very hard to catch though, so people generally don't devote a ton of time to them. You don't catch them by accident either as they hit on some MONSTER-sized lures. The Lake that our cabin is on is known for record Tigers too. Not even really that big of a lake either (3,986 acres). I have seen one swimming under the dock twice ever and have seen a couple out fishing, but I have never hooked one. I have caught some pretty big Northern Pike though, here in Montana on Fort Peck as well as in Minnesota.

 

Nah, you throws a huge ass spinner or crank bait out there and then just rip it back. Reeling pretty damn fast... They are very instinctual hunters and respond to the vibrations and disruptions in the water. Similar to a walleye, but much more aggressive when they do hit. Muskie are almost exactly like Northern Pike if you have ever fished for them. Northerns are usually what I catch when I go muskie fishing. I usually fish for things I can eat though when I am Minnesota (only get a couple weeks a summer) so my Muskie fishing is usually limited to a night or 2.

 

Though I haven't had a ton of it, I have had sauger and walleye side by side and honestly could not tell the difference. The majority of fresh water (white meat) fish taste the same.......... flavorless. Unless they have a muddy taste. The only way a person can honestly tell the difference between white meat fish is the texture of the meat (flakiness).

I always chuckle when someone says Crappie are better than Walleye, etc... But I really do prefer walleye over anything else.

 

Damn they have them in Hauser Lake!? I may have a daytrip or two to make this summer...

Trout is kind of an acquired taste. They are good though if cooked correctly. I also love to ice fish. Ice fishing is honestly the majority of my fishing in Montana. I'd really like to buy a nice fishing boat when I get done with school.

Impressive. I am pretty sure I can count on one hand the number of Smallmouths I have caught. And I think my biggest largemouth is like 5 lbs... These lakes that freeze every winter don't produce the size of fish that you guys have down there.
