I live in Fort Myers for College so at times there is nothing to do so i go spotting at the airport....and i saw a fedex and ups plane land on friday....now i know that those planes stay there on the cargo ramp all weekend..... so my question is, where do the pilots go? do they have their respective company pay for a flight home on one of the airline companies? or do they stay there all weekend..... my other question is if they go home, they obviously must have some other pilots fly down on one of the airlines to fly the planes back right?

If they don't have bases there then they are put up in a hotel for the weekend. The fact that the planes are parked over the weekend tells me they have bases; but I would highly doubt they park them. A plane sitting on a tarmac is a losing investment, planes don't pay for themselves sitting still.

Back to the original question, every airline is different, but if they are not based there and are scheduled for a long over night(s), they probably are not sent home. Again, if something happens and they don't get back, the planes are sitting and we do we know about planes that sit? Next part of the question, commercial pilots in the US can ride nearly any other commercial carrier for free. The airlines actually work together and allow jump seat privileges to each other.

Right... nice and off topic first 2 lol... and i see what youre saying but i know for a fact that the fed ex and ups planes are parked at the airport all weekend, have the engine covers on and everything... so i assumed like you said , the pilots are either in a hotel or catch a flight home... and fort myers is no base lol... very small airport lol

You have to have an appreciationfor aviation, much like fishing. I haven't done it myself in many years because I see them all day, but it can be interesting and relaxing.

RSW is probably not a major hub for either carrier, but it may be a regiional base for shipping that base a plane or two. Obviously there are some big differences in the type of airline they are, they don't necessarily have a set flight schedule to get people somewhere, they can wait until a plane is full to go. However, a plane that is sitting is not doing anyone any good, but obviously both services are very succesful, so you can't say they are doing it wrong.

Fishing is nice too, but i have a real love for aviation.... kinda the reason I've decided to join the USAF when I'm done here in college.... so yeah you do have to have an appreciation for aviation, and aircraft, and how they work and so on....

yeah, thats true didn't really think of that
