Very nice choice of bikes, but you are right, DO NOT make it your first bike. You will be splattered across the highway.

Get yourself an older liter bike, you could at least get used to the the weight of a bike that size, the 2005 ZX-10R comes to mind as being somewhat comparable, but not as deadly.

    That sounds super safe!

According to data published in 2007 by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety in the USA, the ZX-10R has that country's highest collision damage loss claim rate of any motorcycle registered between 2000 and 2006.

yes, just as deadly. He needs a 600 to learn, less chance of that front wheel coming off the ground if he doesn't want it to. That ZX-10 will be almost as bad as the Duc for bringing that front wheel off the ground in any of the first 4 gears.

While I agree with them, I choose 600s because I never want a bike that size... However if you were to ever get a Duc, you need to get used to death on wheels.

Respect for the power is the biggest thing, along with knowing what is going to happen and how to control it when you grab too big of a handful of the throttle.

If you are anything like me, 6 foot 180 soaking wet, you'll decide to stay away from liter bikes.

My suggestion to both of you is find a track near by and go to a track day. If you can use the track group NESBA. They are very good and will help you learn. You will learn more about your bike in 1 day that you will in 3 years of street riding. JB, look at Barber in Birmingham. One of the best tracks in the country and not too far from you.

Yeah, I think B-Ham is about 7 hours away. Shouldn't be too bad of a drive

I'd love to hit up a track someday, something I have never done, and I've been riding for over a decade.
