Same thing on almost every forum: people post pics of their trucks and go through all kinds of efforts to black out, cut out, pixelate, swirl etc. their plates. What's the big secret? Don't you drive around with them in public where hundreds of people see them every day? Do THEY come stalk, rape and a murder you on a nighly basis?

Each to their own, but I think its silly! As if that that plate number would be the only way to figure out where you live...

Agreed. I find it silly as well. Some just don't want other forum people to know their plates. My thought is that if someone really wants to find me they will...

Because you have an open forum where many people have build threads, showing detailed information on your vehicle, all the costs of aftermarket upgrades including how to install them. By listing your license place on here, people can scroll through, find a vehicle they like, run the plate and they now have your address without even leaving the comfort of their computer chair. Might be paranoid but that's why I don't list mine :)

One of my friends was on a Honda forum, had lots of pics of his build and someone came and nabbed it. He had a pretty intricite security system and he never knew for sure if it was a forum member or stalker but the best he could tell was someone was able to look at his pictures, determine where the weak points of the system were and take it away.

I think the blocking out plate numbers is an older practice when there were not more sophisticated ways to get your identity,
same reason the practice of using "user names" instead of your real name.
All just really a safety measure to not openly give away your identity, address and location.
Today, if someone really had intent to get your identity from the internet with malicious intentions,
they would not bother with your plate number, they would key in on other things.

I would be much more paranoid about someone seeing me locally, checking out my rig, following me to work/home then stealing it. Rather than someone on an internet forum checking my plate, running it somehow (crooked cop? dishonest DMV employee?) finding my address, travelling to the city where I live, then to my house and stealing it.

I'm more concerned that any moron with a screwdriver can steal a 1st gen if they want a joy ride.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I don't list my address but if they want to find me they will. I already have one stalker (GF from HS) so another one or two might get interesting. My current GF might change her views on carrying fire arms too. :D

Oh BTW you can see my plate in my photo's I don't care.
