correct, by an act of congress. Signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower...on June 14th, 1954 (flag day) to be exact.

the pledge was modified 3 times prior to the 1954 addition. but the 1954 act by a congressional joint resolution was the 1st official amendment to the pledge.

    You want irony:
the origional pledge was written by a Cristian Socialist named Francis Bellamy who was a Baptist minister.

also, do some simple research on the pledge...its origins and purpose.

History can be fun, exciting & entertaining.

yes, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, was enacted July 2nd 1964.

I'm not sure of your point,
but my point is...many laws and acts of congress have become part of the American political & legal landscape since 1776.

All I could suggest is: Stay tuned, as I'm sure there is more to come. :D

Don't leave out the rest of the story Larry! The pledge was modified after heavy pressure from the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization, who had tried and failed to get the words "under God" added to the pledge for decades before it's final inclusion. Also, the minister that wrote the pledge was quoted as saying that he didn't include those words for a reason, although there is specualtion about that because of when the pledge was written and amended.

It has also been heavily documented that one of the motivating factors behind the pledge change finally being passed in congress was the growing communism scare, as a way of distinguishing the United States as honorable and good in comparison to the "state sponsored" atheism of the Soviet Union.

I am a Christian. I was born into a Christian family and accepted Christ when I was around 5 or 6. During junior high school and high school I kind of strayed away but later on came back to the Lord. I also felt called into the ministry at that time and have been involved in it ever since then. I now run an online ministry and up until our last church closed down, was the youth pastor. I also lead a home fellowship Bible study. The stuff I do is non denominational and the teaching I do is chapter by chapter and verse by verse out of the Bible. As a result, over a period of a few years, the entire Bible is covered.

    Good for you pastor

I too was raised in a Christian family...but spent a few decades away from the church. A few years ago I found myself born again, and now couldn't be a happier man.

I'm no preacher, but I worship and serve. I'm part of a men's outreach ministry and currently training to be part of a group who mentors young men of single mothers.

btw, I spotted the link in your signature from another thread and have already peeped it. I pray it does good for you, and helps others as well. :)

God the Father, Son (Jesus) and Holy Spirit are all One but separate in nature. In our minds it is hard to imagine because in the natural, there is nothing like it. Yes there are similarities but nothing exactly like them. Jesus was part of the Trinity from before time began but temporarily left all of that to be born of a virgin to live a sinless life to die for the sins of mankind. He now sits back at the right hand of the Father in heaven.

The best way I can tell a person to picture the Trinity is to look at water. Let's say you have a jug of water and take some of that water and freeze it. Take some more of the water and boil it to make steam and leave the other water in its liquid state. Technically, they are all water from one source but have different jobs and descriptions.

Basically, and I know in the natural this doesn't make a lot of sense to us but they are both the same and different. They are all God and One entity but they have different jobs and roles.

Thank you Larry! I love doing the work of the Lord and am humbled He has called me to do this but am also amazed at why He would call me for this job when there are others a heck of a lot more qualified.

    well put pastor.

    God is our Heavenly Father.
    Jesus is our earthly Savior.
The Holy Spirit is which we allow to enter our heart & soul, to allow us to receive eternal life through Jesus.

What is the purpose of the holy trinity, was it supposed to be some cool superpower to separate "god" from mortals in the story, because honestly, in light of all the sci-fi movies/novels made since the bible was written, it seems like the authors could have picked something more impressive.

Well first off, The Bible was written by man but inspired by God. Take the Pentateuch for instance or the first 5 books of the Bible. God directly gave Moses those accounts. Others, through the power of the Holy Spirit were also told what to write and other stuff is basically just history being recorded.

Now with the Trinity of God, It's who they are. They didn't just decide to do it for a certain way. Man was however, made in Their image. We have a physical body, a mind that thinks and a soul. The authors of the Bible weren't just making up what they thought God should be. If that was the case, I would not be a Christian. I am a believer, because I know that it is absolute truth. It's really not even a religion but a relationship. I love that relationship too. It is not something I just follow and believe in blindly.

The thing that has always puzzled me is how believers of all the different religions can be so sure that their version is the only correct one
