I bet you could get away with spending 5K on a SAS if you did all the work yourself....

    Oops...

Ya... I used last year's prices.

Okay... so that makes premium even more of a "no big deal".
    $4.20 vs $4.40 is only a 4.5% difference.
    $3.20 vs $3.40 is a 5.8% difference.
    $2.20 vs $2.40 is an 8.3% difference.

The difference between regular and premium was a HUGE deal back when gas was under a buck a gallon... and even at a buck a gallon it was a 20% difference. It was the difference between $15 and $18 for a 15 gallon tank.
3 bucks is 3 bucks, and 15 gallons at $0.20 difference is still 3 bucks, but when you're looking at $40+, that $3 loses it's significance.

    TRD SC, suspension
I've been sitting on the fence for a while with this too, although it wouldn't be 5K worth of suspension.

Stock, Tacomas are very capable on and off road, and realistically don't need the SC or suspension mods until you use it beyond what the stock components can do.

Given that, I sold my '89 truck and have $5,500 to throw at my Tacoma, so with a bit of self rationalizing I ordered sliders and the TRD SC yesterday:D.

As far as suspension, I paid for the TRD package so I'm going to use it and see if I really need to upgrade the suspension in a year or two. I can enjoy the SC on a daily basis.

If you look at SAS builds people are breaking upwards of 8k on parts alone.

True, but if you got a Front end off of another truck in a salvage yard, that would be a good percentage of the money you saved. Me and my friend got a 14 bolt out of a Salvage yard and it only cost him $100.

Depends what state you live in but pretty much walk away if they
are charging you 4800 or more out the door. I know tax rates play
    a role.

The thread question just depends on personal preferences, but I will
say this, I love my SC and don't regret it at all. So much more
responsive to drive. I think those who haven't been in a
supercharged truck don't know what they are missing. There are
cheaper lifts out there to augment the investment in the SC.
