trailer lenth

i would like opinions on towing a travel trailer. i am looking at either a 25ft or a 28ft in lenth. the tongue weight on either on is 425 lbs and gross weight for either trailer is 6040 lbs, both under max limit of 08 taco with tow package 4x4. i really prefer the 28 ft trailer but not sure how that extra 3 feet will effect the overall handling of the vehicle. i am planning on getting a blue ox weight distributing hitch with either trailer. i would really appreciate any opinions on this.

 

I have a 19ft travel trailer that's about the max length I'd tow with my DC LB. The weight is only 1 factor.

 

+1. I sold my Tacoma after towing our 19ft trailer this summer and got a half ton. It was not relaxed towing, and we were 400 lbs over payload at the scales.

 

I know you're rated to tow 6500# but there's no way I would. Around 5000 to 5300 would be my max. You need a full size truck to tow that trailer.

 

After towing a my 19' trailer with a full size truck I decided not to tow it with the Tacoma anymore. A 28' with the Tacoma? I'd want at least a HD 1/2 ton.

 

You need to give this some thought. Remember its not just the weight, the tow vehicle has to be in charge of the towing, and in this case I would be afraid. 28' is a lot of trailer, and if you try to get on the highway, that right there is stress, but if its windy, and you have semi's passing you, I have seen stuff like that, the trailer could whip you around.
Something like that I would want a dually, and If you are getting this at a R.V. place, i would get some answers from them, and make that salesman earn is pay.

 

saw this today with a little blazer pulling a huge trailer...didn't work out too well for either.

 

I just brought home my new travel trailer. 27' box 32' tip to tip. Towed great with WD hitch and cam sway control. 5505 dry weight. My '11 DCSB 4x4 with tow pack towed better than my buddies 1500HD Dodge.

 

that's a sweet trailer! WD hitch and sway control makes a huge difference. I towed a 19' trailer and I towed it ones with out the WD and sway control (got lazy) on backroads back to my house under 45 mph and I can decently feel the difference. although the trailer was light the truck bounce a lot more and the tail swayed when going over bumps.

 

Pretty brave of you towing that trailer, the crosswinds would push me off the road and I would have trouble on mountain passes. Other than that, nice trailer.

 

That's insane. Even with my 1/2 ton 2006 Yukon XL which a longer WB I wouldn't tow over 5k dry weight.

I'm shopping for a trailer right now and I'm looking for something 4500 dry weight for safety. I've got the whole fam in the truck, gotta stay safe.

 

Hooked up the travel trailer and took it camping. Figured it was close to 6000 max wt. had to readjust the sway bar for the wt. had no problem maintaining 60-65. Trans temp never broke 190. Kept it in 4th. I think I need better tires. Felt soft. Bu trailer tracked great otherwise.

 

Go up to the Load Range E Bridgestone Duelers I went to those on my Yukon, run about 60-65lbs in them and they are awesome.

 

I am a Goodyear Kelly or Dunlop fan. My wife works for Goodyear and can get decent prices. I was thinking the MT/R. But I don't need tires yet. Couple guys told me to air the tires up a bit and that will help alot also.

 

Way too big for a Tacoma. You get in trouble with that trailer and it's going to take you with it truck and all.

 

Eeek! I hope you're not putting ANYTHING in that trailer or your truck while you tow! Time for a Tundra, my friend!

 

Really anything Load Range E will make a huge difference. I went with the Duelers because of their reviews. Every brand makes a really good tire and some crappy tires, it just boils down to you get what you pay for. I have Goodyear duratracs on my taco (Load range D's, I don't tow with it) and they are outstanding tires.

I went with the duelers because the reviews were just as good as the Michlin LTX M/S and they were onsale through costco.

 

Heading in to get my new duratracs installed. Load E. should help rowing alot. Will find out this weekend.

 

Made the first trip with the load e tires and what a difference. Hit two blinding rain storms towing the trailer and they did awesome. No slipping at all. The sway was cut down a lot also. Def worth it.

 

The trailer you are towing is too much for your truck.
