Holy chit, I've done a lot already!!
Well it would seem like you get the gold star. I have been doing ALOT of research since Tuesday and it would sure seem to be a Steelhead. Our DEC stocks 9 tributaries of Lake Erie with Steelhead, and mine is one of them. And not too far upstream either. Would have NEVER known that. Thanks!! Now I wish I would have kept him. I have been back there everyday since. Not a damn thing. Seen them alot, but not hits. I think I am up to cast 759, so I am getting close:)

I went fishing Saturday morning using a spook (by far my favorite lure) and caught about 10. This was the biggest one I landed at approx. 3 pounds

I also lost the biggest bass of my life; I had finished walking the spook back to me and was just reeling it in quickly the last 10 ft to my kayak. I was looking where I was going to make my next cast and suddenly there was a large whoosh noise and the water boiled right next to the kayak. A fish hit my spook right next to the kayak and since there was no line out and my rod was pointing right at my lure it snapped my line almost immediately. I thought out loud "Man, I bet that was a big fish" and thought maybe it will jump trying to throw the lure from it's mouth and sure enough it jumped twice about 4 feet away from me.

It was every bit of 7 pounds, probably close to 8. My spook rythym was too fast for the next hour because I had so much adrenaline running through me.

Nice! I'm glad I could help. If you spin fish pick up a #4 Blue Fox lure with black body and black spinner. Also, the sliver and blue or silver and green has worked for my dad. Cast slightly upstream and reel just fast enough to keep the spinner spinning. In the middle of the day, fish the deeper holes and let the lure sink down into them.

If you fly fish, match the bugs in your waters for this time of year.

Be very quiet on the shore, dress in neutral colors.

    Good luck!

I've been using the Blue Fox for a couple years now. Down here, we use #2, and either all gold or all silver. It's been killin em for a while now. They seem to have slowed down on it lately, though. Had to switch back to the Panther Martin.

No, still kicking myself for not having a set of scales in the boat. I'm guessing around 8 lbs. It was the biggest bass I've ever caught.
