Scrubbing when I turn, solutions??

I'm a rookie at this stuff so bare with me. I'm driving a stock 2wd DC V6 with 265/75/16 tires and rims. I just put a brand new set of BFG At's on the truck this past week. My old tires were Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armour's in the same size. The BFG's are scrubbing way worse than the Silent Armour's ever did when I turn and i'm scared I might eventually screw up the tires. Can I add the Bilstein 5100's to my truck maybe set at 1.5" to reduce the rub or would this not effect it at all?? I have 148,000 on my truck and have never replaced the shocks so I know it probably wouldn't hurt to replace them but I'm trying to figure out options to rid the scrubbing before I ruin an expensive set of tires! Thanks for the input.

 

Shocks would help a little, not much.. the first hard compression on them will hit that rub spot.. raise them at least 2" and push those tires out with different wheels. did you do the tires yourself? .. tire shop should have know they would rub..

 

I've had the rims on the truck since 2007. The old tires were the same size and scrubbed a little bit also just not as much as these tires seem to be. They may of done the same thing its just me being paranoid. Basically I new when I put this size tire on the truck they would scrub I'm just wondering if I lifted the front end would that help with the tires rubbing against the frame.

They are rubbing the frame when I turn, don't really want to be cutting on the frame. Don't think that would be a very good idea.

A cheaper alternative to buying new wheels would be to buy some Spidertrax wheel spacers, which would push your wheels out and reduce the tire rub.

I'm assume your tires are rubbing either on the frame or the upper control arms? If so those are you are best two options.

 

^ A sawzall won't do anything on a frame.

 

I forgot to point out in my suggestion, Don't worry about a little rub on the frame.. your not going to hurt those tires and surely not the frame.. just roll with it.. we all do. However raising (lifting) the truck will give some releaf to constant rubbing.. I recall when I put my 33" on, rubbing on every turn and bump, Installed a lift with coilovers and new shocks, this removed most of the rubbing except when I hit a really big hole.. I cranked the front up about 5 more rotations, bingo! .. all rubbing gone.. you just have to work with it..

Are you experiencing SCRUBBING or RUBBING. Scrubbing is often referred to as the tire sliding or being forced out of it's normal path of trajectory causing a noise like tire squeal. Thing turning sharp on pavement and hearing your tires squeal a little or "scuff".

Rubbing is obviously contact between your tire and frame or body suspension components etc....

Maybe a stupid question but thought it might be worth asking based on your OP.

I run and many members here run Spidertrax because of their reputation of being quality wheel spacers, you can run other spacers, just most have had very good results from spidertrax. All pro makes spacers as well. I'd stay away from the eBay spacers though.

 

Thats my biggest concern is messing the tires up, not so much the frame. I figure if I put a little lift on it and it helps then that justifies me adding the shocks. Thanks for the input guys.

Yea its def. a "rub" I guess you would say. When I turn the tire is rubbing the frame, I can see where it has rubbed a spot on it behind my tire. I don't think its touching anything other than the frame.
