thanks for the info. my living room area is about 500sqft which is the main area i want to keep cool. i looked online and was finding that 10,000BTU is about the right size for 500sqft. right now im leaning towards a portable one because i want to be able to move it to and from the bedroom, and im also worried about how hard it will be to install a window unit.(really like the idea of just having to plug it in and turn it on). so if you went with a portable would you go with at least 20,000btu or would that be overkill.

edit: i also saw those "evaporative air coolers" are those just bad? should i stay away?

Thanks for that info!!! Did not think you had a build thread -- which would be great but, as you said, not good for me either!! Thanks again and happy wheelin'!!!!

I’m doing some route planning for our trip to Moab for the upcoming TW meet. Looking for some feedback on our route thru Oregon. Mark (The Raisin) and I are going in his Tundra towing my rig on a 17 ft car trailer.

    IMG_2953_067ee21d72346d9d980d883692e5c421051ca5c1.jpg

We will be staying in La Pine on our first night on the road. I am thinking Salem to Sister/Bend over Santiam pass. In fact, thinking hwy 22 past Detroit Lake to hwy 20 then on to Sisters. We’ve never been this way and are looking for a scenic drive.

Anyone done this route while towing?

Since it will be May 11th, it doesn’t seem like snow/ice would be an issue but not sure about that. We have experience towing a Tacoma over mountain passes in Wa and the Tundra is quite capable.

    Thoughts?

Cameron: Windows can be a challenge, but I've done it. If you are in an apartment, yeah, I wouldn't want to try it again.

Overkill. if they say 10k, you probably want 12, 14 at the max. I can't remember if I went 2 steps up or just 1, I'd probably do 2 steps if you can swing it.

I think it's just gimmicky. I have this model and I never use that setting. I don't know if I'm using it wrong or if it's the wrong climate to use it for. My advice is that it doesn't matter.

We have a '99 Dodge 250 diesel and we pull a 24' 5th wheel. We usually take that route during September, there isn't anything difficult towing-wise. SE Oregon is somewhere I've never been, but it's pretty barren of anything. On our Utah trip we went to Boise and then down, the only parts we didn't like were Twin Falls to Ogden (boring, literally nothing out there), and Salt Lake City (traffic).

Thanks Mike. We'll come back the route thru SLC, Twin Falls and Boise but we thought it would be interesting to mix it up a bit when going. Good to hear Santiam shouldn't be an issue.

It is almost as good as a chemical bath cleaning for the motor, fuel system, and oil. i recommend doing it about every 30,000 miles. that is often enough that you will notice the difference, but you won't blow a bunch of money trying to clean what is still clean.

Trying to gauge interest for either day @ Tahuya. I think this will be a day-trip, but camping may be an option if there are enough people interested.

Let's get some feedback on which day would work best for everyone who's interested in going. (Note: I can go either day)

I'm interested in tahuya. Leaning towards Sunday. It's just out by hood correct?

Is there any special passes needed to recreate in that area?

    See above...or not.

Located just West of Belfair, WA. The local Safeway is the preferred meeting area.

WA Discovery Pass required ($11/day or $35 Annual)

This may turn into a camping trip, but I think Saturday would be the best option so more people can join, and we can spend a good portion of the day/evening out there without cutting the trip short.

Are OR ORV passes valid? Or is the WA Discovery Pass something totally different?

No. Oregon passes are not recognized at all for anything in Washington.

Yes. You must have one. I think I've seen a trooper every trip to Tahuya

I thought the Oregon tags were good in Washington, and vice versa.
