I just noticed my 3 week old TRD Sport is missing a hubcap off the left rear 17" factory wheel. Don't know if it detached itself on the road somewhere,,, or was ripped off.

Has anyone in TW experience a loss, perhaps due to poor fit or other anomaly rather than theft?

It just adds character. I purposely only put 3 spinner hub caps on my Taco.

One of my center caps fell off 2 weeks after owning the truck. Toyota wanted $45/each for replacements so I said F-it and took the other 3 off. I hate caps! I've been through 3 or 4 sets on my car cuz the damn things keep falling off. I don't bother anymore.

I think mine came off splashing through 6+" of water during a flash flood on a city street. All I know is it was there the day before, and not the next. It was the passenger side too so I'm thinking the water forced it off. The rest popped of so easily that I decided not to waste the money seeing if they stayed on again. Someone once told me to superglue them on.

    I hear you.

These caps are ridiculously expensive and apparently don't attach to the wheel all that securely. Yesterday, the dealer's parts guy said that two caps came up on his inventory; one for $45, and another for $79. The more expensive cap was not in stock. (Wow, this actually has me crossing fingers that I might get off easy with the "cheap" cap. Well, after further checking, it was determined I needed the $79 one. It turns out the $45 5-lug cap is made of plastic, whereas the $79 6-lug caps on the TRD Sport are METAL. Woo-freaking-hoo! Now, will somebody please pass me the KY?

At least the parts guy, feeling sorry for me - and probably embarassed at the high cost of such a simple part, dropped the cost to $61 and it should be in tomorrow.

One more hit like this and aftermarket wheels will definitely look like the more cost effective option. :(

Back when I had stock wheels, one of mine came off too. I remember being told those same prices at my local dealer. I said no way! I went back to the dealer that sold me the truck and they replaced it under warranty for me. :D

Center caps are all over Ebay at resonable prices. I've seen a lot of them go for $40-50 for a set of four.

After reading this I checked mine. They were all still on. I then thought I'd see how hard they were to remove. The first one on the rear I pulled came off way to easy. I checked the other 3, not easy at all. The three that were hard to remove all had a circular wire installed between the fingers in the cap to apply extra outward pressure to the grooves in the wheel to keep them in. That easy one did not have this wire. I called the dealer and told them about this and that they are the only ones that have had the wheels off when they installed the TSB for the rear leafs. I asked him if they had or would order me the wire. He said the whole hubcap would be replaced under warranty as they could not order just this piece of wire to insert into my cap.

Is it just me, or is this what's wrong with this world anymore. Replace everything instead of repair anything.

New hubcap installed under warranty. Had to turn in the old (brand new) one?

Asked what they would do with the old one. Said it would be returned to Toyota for credit so they wouldn't be charged by Toyota and would probably get trashed in the end.

Wouldn't a whole package of the wire inserts to every dealer in the country for $10 a 1000 be a little cheaper than a $39 hubcap replacement?
