Anyone install a "pusher" fan on their V6 2nd Gen?

    Last couple trips up to the trails, my truck has run hot (over 220)

    I have been looking into either swapping the stock fan for electric, or adding a electric in front as a "push fan" so while at slow speed or idle I can have the fan going at full speed to keep the engine cool.

    Just wondering if anyone has done this yet?

    This is the fan I was looking to get:

    Does this really help in any substantial way? I could understand an older vehicle with outdated tech... but on a modern truck would you see any difference. I am open-minded, just looking for the full story.

    yeah to me it sounds like you have other issues, your truck shouldn't be getting much over 200* when wheeling unless you're reving like crazy in 4low all the time.

    Yes, I have the Flexalite fan kit for my Tacoma. OP, first off, I have to agree with the others that if you're getting that hot something does not sound right. I'm not sure what your wheeling entails, but the stock mech fan should be more than adequate.

    That being said, I have the Tacoma efan kit and have had it installed for almost 3 years now. I don't wheel (street queen and misc household sh-tuff hauler), but I do spend plenty of time in low-speed traffic situations. I haven't ever gone above 200. As for the efan, it works fine for me, I did upgrade the control unit to a 2 stage startup control unit, mostly to reduce noise and electrical system load. It's definitely questionable if the $475 I spent for the kit and the 2 stage control unit are worth it as it doesn't appear to have any perf or mpg gains, but I do like eliminating the mech fan roar.

    thanks for the responses, I plan on doing a flush and replacing the thermostat. As I find it odd that my truck is running hot. I have seen the FAL replacement kit, but at $350 it was a bit steep. ( and reviews are somewhat mixed. ) Guess I'll do the basics and see.

    I have this same issue in my 2010 4x4

    In Florida wheeling (mostly 2wd) with AC blowing full blast , cause its 90+ degrees outside

    Within 10-15min my AC compressor will kick off, as my water temp reaches 220+
    AC blows warm air

    If I continue to wheel on at slow speeds (under 15mph) then the water temp continues to climb

    Ive had my truck in 3 toyota dealerships to have this issue adressed under warranty...
    All 3 shops came up with clean bill of health.....saying they see no concerns

    Even hot summer days stuck in traffic, my AC quits working and water temp climbs above 220+

    HELP !!!!

    Ive over heated once while offroad (before I got a scanguage with alarm)
    Dont want to do it again

    As it is I have to stop often and run the heater to keep water temp around 200

    :confused:
