Just wanted to throw some ideas around for anyone interested.... When I got my taco in January it was bone stock and got 16 mpg.... so I did a little to her just to see what it would do... I added a K&N air filter and deck mod and got up to 16.5-17mpg... I added a bed cover and didnt think about mpg but when I calculated it I am getting about 18.5 mpg and I do about 30%highway and 70%city... what have you done that improved ur mpg...

i run synthetic everything(motor oil, gear oil in all my diffs...all mobil1), keep my tires aired up, seafoam every 3 or 4 oil changes(not necessary really, but i still do it), clean my throttle body every 10k miles, did the deck plate mod..............basically keep it serviced right.....and i get around 19-21 mpg on my 04 double cab v6.

That's not bad for mostly city driving. I don't think you'll do better than that with 70% city driving with a V6.

Ima try a few other things... maybe a throttle body spacer.. worked on my other truck... also has anyone ever used the tornado thing that they sell on tv?

just gonna say......................on a fuel injected motor...............tb spacers dont do anything at all but whistle....................they just dont work. if anything....they impede air flow. and the tornado............another fine piece of junk that doesnt do anything.

    well........they make good paperweights.

Both are useless unless you use them for paperweights. The Tornado actually blocks the flow of air the the TB spacer does nothing on trucks with FI. And looked at the intake plenum, do you really think air will still stay swirled going through the plenum? No, I don't think so. That nickel and dime stuff won't work, just save your money and drive like a grandma. No offense to any grandmas out there. :D

I didnt think the tornado worked... but the throttle body spacer worked on my old truck... had it speced out when I worked at a mechanic shop... we had a dyno and every time I added something I ran it on the dyno..

well see....thats pretty close to how a carburetor works on the chevy's.........but on direct fuel injection......the spacer dont work. do as you will though..........but you arent gonna see any results by adding the tb spacer to the tacoma motor.

    2008 SR5 Double Cab
3" Tuff Country suspension lift, Westin grill guard, side steps, additional 1/8in front skid plate, K&N filters, Truxedo locking roll up bed cover, Air Lift 2,000lb helper bags in the rear. 8" LCD DVD/TV, 700 watt power inverter on board, off road KC lights, mt bike brackets for bed rail system, 18" black alloy rims on Nitto tires. 20% tint on back and rear, 50% front, RUDE racing fuel saver chip, tow package including Tranny and supplemental oil coolers, 130A alternator and more to come!
Ive got an 08 double cab and I added an Extang bed cover, k&n, all synthetic fluids, Plus gasoline every time, and even with the heavy brush guard, side tubes, skid plate, extra lights, 3 ball tow reciever that stays on 24\7, and larger 18" rims, I am getting 25-29mpg with my taco, so aside from cleaning my K&N out every 5K miles, I dunno what else to tell you man, maybe just the newer trucks are making better use of the VVT-i engines. Good luck
