Hey guys, this is my first post here, coming from the world of offroad VW's.
I have a guy who wants to trade his 2000 Tacoma for my Baja Bug, which I have listed at $7500. I don't know a lot about Tacoma's so I was hoping you guys may be able to help me out on what you think this truck would be worth.

Here's all the info he gave me:

    2000 Tacoma 3.4 TRD Supercharged
    157k miles
    Prerunner bumper front and rear
Four 4" offroad lights in front
    HID headlights
Camburg Mid-Travel kit w/ SAW RaceRunner coilovers
Shackle lift in back with adjustable shocks
    33x12.5R15 Rims and tires
Full size spare on rear bumper
    10" sub
    Automatic trans

Now I'm new to Tacoma's, but I am not new to cars or offroading, so I have my fair share of concerns.

First off, the exhaust is still stock, which worries me because I've heard stories of people destroying systems and catalytic converters because the stock exhaust can't handle the supercharger.

Also, he told me he only has the upper arms on the mid-travel kit, and that the truck has about 9" of travel in the front. Am I going to be able to take whoops at a decent speed with this setup? I know that sounds like a naive way to phrase the question, I guess I'm curious if this is a decent setup or if you need the lower arms for the full benefit. Right now I just pin it through the rough stuff in my bug and it bounces right over. Don't want to give that up.

Sorry, this ended up being a bit long of a read...but if anyone can help me out at all I'd be very grateful

    Thanks,
    Tyler

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The CAT concern is not true.

    I don't see a rear pre-runner bumper, only a tire carrier.

I'd be a little skeptical about 9" of travel. I wouldn't take whoops at decent speeds with that set-up. You need a good LT not a mid travel.

As a trade value-wise, that's a real good deal for you as long as that truck is in good shape mechanically. If you wanted something that's comparable to a buggy-type vehicle, then it's not the best match. You would still need to upgrade the suspension to an LT setup first (not cheap).

I would do it, then just sell the truck if you want something else. That thing could probably fetch more than the 7500 you are asking for the Baja Bug.

Make sure it's in good mechanical order though first. If he abused it on trails and such, it could just be a money pit for repairs.

I think it's worth it depending on what you want to do with the truck. If you want a full bad ass crazy baja truck, skip it, if you want a quick capable offroader, go for it.

That truck looks very clean. You should post up a few pics of your bug so we can make a comparison. But just from the info I obtained, it may be worth the trade depending on what you are wanting to do with it. that truck looks to be a 2WD...is that correct? I would prefer a 4wd... but maybe that's just me.

If your looking to get an equal trave money wise then I would do it seeing as how that truck is worth more than 7k. But keep in mind it's got to drink the expensive gas because of the supercharger.

It is a 2WD. Here's a couple pics of the bug

    P1060523_7cc710d0b21245ba4bfcfc0277b640e44667e26a.jpg

    P1014166_d2016900d017e483754b356f92d2740ca9a26d5f.jpg

    P1014173_b588dc731c4464daed52cab25e7a9884f31c78f0.jpg

The premium gas is a good point. So I guess another question I have, how plausible is it to remove the supercharger and go back to stock? Is it a bolt-on SC or is it more in-depth?

I'm not looking for a full baja truck, I know it isn't in the budget. But having something I could do a solid 20-30mph offroad in would be nice, don't want to have to crawl too much stuff.

Thanks for the replies so far, very helpful!

with all the parts in it, as long as it runs great i think 7500 is a great buy!

I think it's two skinnier tires in front and two bfg's in the rear.

I'm seeing what everyone else is. No rear bumper,it's a 2WD and I'm not sure about it being considered a mid travel ( I'm not very knowledgeable about lifts, but in my short time here I've learned enough to know that spacers will lift but not supply travel ). I'd keep the bug, especially if you're not really into the supercharger.

It's got coil overs and UCAs but it looks like there is a spacer stacked on top of the coil overs to me.

Good eye, I didn't notice those spacers at all! I have spacers on my trailblazer, not looking to get another truck with spacers. Really stiffens the ride. Lots of good points, looks like I may be holding onto the bug for a bit longer.

Twistedfreedom, I noticed you're running the Camburg UCAs. What do you think about them, any before and after opinions?

I love them it changed the ride quite a bit from my stock UCAs after the lift was put on. I wouldn't go back to a balljoint after having uniballs.

Dig the bug! ...with a gem like that you can hold out for exactly what you want... or sell it for a pretty penny and have $ towards another good offroad beast!
