Iv been wanting to mount one of my AR15s in my truck somewhere out of sight, and out of my way... After much searching, best I have found is a roof mount which requires drilling. So I took my rifle, and went out and looked around my truck when I came up with an idea.

I was thinking if I remove my rear grab handles (above the rear doors) then I could use the existing mounting holes. I mean these are very secure spots. Then the rack would run from one to the other. Easily removable, abd keeps rifle out of sight.

Im considering buying a roof mounted rack and modifying it.

Thoughts? As far as I know nothing like this exists. Lmk if it does, saves me the work...

Toyota all weather floor mats. Mag light that clunks around in the jack compartment. Dog hair. Dog drool on the windows.
Where do you live again? I would never get away with that here in NY.

Personally i wouldn't want my rifle/ shotgun mounted to my roof for it would be exposed to everyone outside to see, and in case of a rollover it's not a very safe place to have it. I don't know of any good spots to mount one on the inside of the cabin but it may be nice to have it in the bed with a tonneau, cap, or hard cover that is locked securely. Just my opinion.

I think this is a great idea if you driving trails, hunting, camping, etc... It would be very secure, and due to the curve of our roofs not visible from the outside.

I'm confused. Is this on the inside or outside of the truck? I've never seen grab handles on the outside.

    NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

As a former LEO, take some GOOD advice and DON'T. The status symbol you get isn't worth your ass getting shot or jacked because some thug found out about it.

When I camp I want a gun with me that will put down a bear... So having it right where I can get it is nice. Not too worried about getting jacked in this situation... I dont want to just drive around with it...

...well don't think it's going to matter, pretty soon it'll be illegal to even look at a gun... sweet more taxes and less rights.

i've stuck a ruger .44 mag carbine and a mossberg 500A with a scope, in the back seat cubby. saves on space on the 2 hr drive to the camp.
that might help and they're out of sight.

bah, 30 hollowpoints will stop the bears around here. Plus I have a 7.62x39 AR. Or some 12 gauge slugs. Plus if I need to back someone up off-duty...

I had looked at that option... Just wish the storage was the width of the truck instead of having the separation. Guys I could take my rifle apart...
