Point is well taken. I personally like the hybrid design ones, but without a tubing bender, or notcher, I will have to only build the squared off ones. The ones I have built before were actually made of 1.75" x 4" rectangular "tubing" that created a nice, flat surface, than when angle-mounted gave the least loss in ground clearance. I have learned people do not like to spend a ton of money to get a nice lift to get ground clearance, only to lose 3 inches of that clearance because of sliders. Without taking the time to really examine a 2nd gen I won't know for sure what I will be able to set up, because I have no way of knowing mounting points and such. Would be nice if I had a spec sheet from Toyota!

Bill if you're serious ask one of the Local Fab guys on here what some of the dimensions are that you are looking for and I'm sure they will be more then willing to tell you as long as you don't ask them for measurements of their designs.. Talk to JLee of BAMF.. he's a pretty nice guy!

Yes, and yes. If my truck don't sell, then I'm just going to do a 4x4 conversion and a SAS. I have the know-how to do it, but no garage, so it would be a pain in the ass. I'd rather just sell it and get a 85 or earlier Toyota pickup with a factory solid axle, and have a whole lot of money left over to do every mod I can think of.

Good call. That's why I stuck with the old jeep for the time being. It's nice wheeling a vehicle that you don't mind beating up

I'd like to see some sliders made out of triangular tubing. Flat side up. Better for sliding IMO.

You are correct! The MOST perfect year Toyota pick up to by and not have to do heavy modification!

I want this one so bad to restore and turn in to a Back to the Future rig!

I'd get a licenses plate that said MCFLY LOL!

I'd curious to see how many miles it has. That's a pretty damn rare find. Dave, I'd hop on that if I were you

Bill I will bring my truck down and see what I can gather for square tubing and go from there. I have a couple designs in my head I can draw up.

I've seen some that use rectangular tubing for the standoffs and the sliders themselves.

Use it with the wide side down, and tuck it up tight. Doesn't offer any side impact protection, but they're beefy as hell for slider use. You could easily put some square tube for kickouts and whatnot. Not sure what size stock, maybe like 1.5" x 3" rectangle, or like 1x3, or 2x4. they're beeeefcake.

From the side they look low profile b/c it's just like a square tube.

the problem with using rectangular tubing over square or round, is that with the flat side down or up, there are problems with snagging horizontally. To be honest, the best sliders are either tube, or rounded. I built one set for a truck a long time ago that we used 2 inch square tubing, then cut 2 inch round tubing down the middle with a band saw (THAT took a long time to cut!) Then welded the half-rounds onto the bottom of the square tubing. Tat way it was the best of both worlds. We had the strength and rigidity of the square center, with the rounded edges of the round tubing to prevent hang ups. There are so many different ways of building sliders. For me the hardest in the build is getting the mount points. the longer the run, the more points you should have. For instance, if I am running 6 feet of slider, I would prefer to have 3 points of mounting to the frame. This is almost never what I can GET, but I prefer it that way. When you do some of the rock crawling that me and some of my friends have done, you want and need STRENGTH. Of course I don't see, at least right now, our entire group going up into the Tennessee mountains to do any crawling, but that does not mean it won't happen!

DAMN! I thought I was going to get to take the day off! Big BOOM in front of the shop, then power went off. Transformer blew. But then about 30 seconds later the electronic system took over and we had power back! Damn you technology!!! lol
