Being an avid mountain biker, I used the argument that a truck would fit my lifestyle better than the Mustang. When I put the bike rack on the Mustang, the car guy down the street wanted to punch me in the head. Didn't matter, though, because when I got the 29'er, the wheels touched the ground anyway.

I couldn't find a manual DC to test drive, so I only test drove the auto. Then when they delivered the truck to me at the house (long story), I saw it and went, "Wow. That's a short bed!" When my wife found out that the bike wouldn't fit, she got ticked at me. "You bought this thing for mountain biking, and had to have it for lifestyle, and your bike doesn't even fit!" I was going to mention I was getting a tonneau cover anyway, and would use the roof rack, but thought better of it. Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission and all that...(which reminds me, I have to order my light bar today)

    Yeah.
I have 2 fork mounts on the back bed rail, my 26ers will fit and my 29er almost fits, so I just leave the tailgate down. Your bike should fit fine that way. I have a Thule hitch rack that I mostly use.

    DCSB FTGDMFW you LB poosies!

I had a hitch rack on my Ranger, and one day on the highway some tool came in a little too hot when I was at a dead stop. I closed my eyes, and braced for impact. When I opened them, he was stopped, and I didn't hear or feel anything, so I went on my way. Got home, and the rim of the outside bike was bent against the frame. That being said, I've got the rear camera, so now I can check it before I leave I suppose.

Short or long box on what exactly ? A double cab ? An Access cab ? Regular cab ? i love my DCSB,don't like the way the longbox looks...too much wheelbase and body. On the other 2 I know they don't come any other way,but that concept truck someone posted that was an access cab shorty was pure sex as far as I'm concerned,

I feel uneasy looking at a truck whose bed looks like it would fit in the cab. Very uneasy.

Long box won't fit in the garage.
Short box won't fit if I leave the hitch in. Found that out the hard way yesterday.

    @ ffdawson:

Now that is super impressive. :D

Short box can get anoying to load with stuff at times however. Coming from a DCSB owner. Many times I wished I could just throw stuff in and forget it, instead of wasting my time finding creative ways to tranasport stuff...

ya the Tetris game can be a pain. The camper shell also really limits the size of cargo, but in my case, with the surf racks on top, it seriously expands my capabilities. I've hauled a near cord of wood in it, slept in it (at 5' 9 3/4" i fit perfectly if i lay down diagonally in the bed :p) put 3 big hound dogs back there... its never let me down!

Ffdawson is my hero. That is some mighty fine packing! Reminds me of my time living in Vail, CO and packing my 4banger reg cab short box with topper full of bikes, camping gear, climbing gear and two buddies to make the 4 hour trek to Moab. Middle guy on the bench seat did the shifting!!!

Wish I had a long bed so I could sleep comfortably in the back. Or I wish I was 3 inches shorter.
