Thanks for the quick reply. To STAndrew, I live in Hampton Roads. I'm not real worried just concerned. I really love this truck and want it to last a long time. I think that i might try and getting it sprayed in the future...well see. Thanks again

Thats about where I am. Dont worry, it doesnt snow much here and if I remember correctly, they use the non corrosive salts here.

Anyways, Its a great truck; dont sell :p.

PS, I still have the under body spray from when Toyota did mine. They gave me the left over stuff (I have a few bottles). Let me know when you get your truck done and I wouldnt mind emptying out a few spots in on my shelves.

I doubt this is the case. In fact I have heard of no issues regarding 2nd gen frame rust issues due to inferior corrosion protection. If you have facts to back your statement-present them.

On a separate note I was reading about the settlement and one article said that the frames affected were sent to the NUMMI plant for Tacoma assembly. Are only the Tacomas assembled at NUMMI affected?

That's alright with me. I'll take 1.5 times Kelly Bluebook on a buyback of my 2010 in 2020! LOL. Seriously though ... my understanding of the problem with the 1st gen frames is the holes in the frame would get clogged with crap, holding water in the frame, and never allowing it to properly dry out. But isn't the 2nd gen frame more open (allowing for better airflow and drying)?

Thanks for the advice, the previous owner lived in Suffolk, I've been in the area since 2001 and I agree snow isn't so bad here but I've been gone for a lot of the winter seasons. I'm going to keep it, it only had 52K on it and runs great. Do you know of or recommend any local shops that provide the spraying?

2nd gen is a C-Frame. 1st gen is boxed up until the rear axle.

PS, Dont feed the troll

No I dont sorry. I just take mine to Toyota. Try the VA thread here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/south-east/22124-calling-all-virginians-tidewater-area-1309.html.

Completely false. Dana no longer makes the replacement frames and they are made out of a different alloy steel.

I really want that to be the truth. Otherwise that would just be ridiculous.

The toyota by my house has replaced the frame in a one truck twice. How do i know i have a friend who gets paid 60 hours to spend 15 hours swapping them out;)? unfortunatly toyota does alot of things that are not quite so savory. The sequoias are rusting out just as bad as the taco's and tundras and last i knew they arn't included in the warranty inhancement either:p

I was having an 'informal' conversation with a friend 2 days ago, who is a service writer for a large Toyota dealership, and he said they recently had seen some rust perforation on the earlier model 4Runners... which were produced in Japan. So sorry... out of warranty

Then again that truck may have been a fluke or an old frame before they started making them in mass:confused:.

I might get an Aussie locker now.... I was going to hold off, since I wanted to visit family in Canada, or maybe move back north, and not worry about the negative handling a lunch box locker has in the snow and ice. But now I'm too paranoid to bring my truck and it's mostly florida frame to the rust belt. And if I move back to the great white north, sad to say, I'll probably sell it and get an XJ or something. Sucks, I really wanted to keep this truck until it didn't run anymore or I had kids. And I really wanted to take this thing on some snowy trails back home..... But I can't afford to go to the dealership and find out that my truck is suddenly worthless.

I have a 1990 S-10 with a c frame, I haven't washed it but 10 times in ten years and the frame has the lightest coating of rust, the frame should be the last thing to fail. Toyota f'ed up.

No, the Dana corporation messed up.

The frames were contracted out to the Dana corp, who messed up the frames. Toyota has a settlement with the Dana corp for the messed up frames.

    Ah, my bad.

He is just mad because the frame is okay on his s10 but the motor blew up at 100k...and his pos s10 is worth a quarter of what my tacoma is worth.

    I can understand his frustration...

My sprayed frame rusted out:p Damn quaility spray they have there, really stopped mine from rusting.

My new frame that toyota sent to the dealer had screwed up shock mounts. And they ordered me a second frame. Same issue so they are clearencing the xmember and repowdercoating it
