    Bear with me. I want to put all the research aides I used in one place.

    For starters my 2006 has 81,### miles. The front driver side wheel bearing is roaring and when jacked up the wheel shakes when rocked from the top and bottom. I am planning on replacing the bearing assembly and then replacing the bearing in the OEM assembly for the next time the bearings go out.

    Instead of being raped by Toyota or E-bay I opted for a Timken replacement.

    I will get the oil seals (43501F and 43502F) and O-Rings (90301-A0005) from my friend at the Toyota dealership.
    90301-A0005 - O-ring
    90316-A0001 - Inner Oil Seal
    90312-96001 - Outer Oil Seal
    Rockauto, has the Timken(koyo) bearing and the national seals. Don't forget to look-up their promo code for us.

    Do you need the 43501F and 43502F seals?

    The inner seal goes between the bearing and the hub, where does the outer seal go?

    Sorry im sure i read it yesterday. Ive been going through all the wheel bearing threads and decided to post on this one.

    Most of the threads say they replace the o-ring, the inner and the outer seal. But on this thread the OP mentions:

    "I will get the oil seals (43501F and 43502F)"

    Im wondering if I need to purchase these parts too.

    Was at the dealer today and looked into these parts cause mine is coming due. The 43501F #2 costs $49.00 and the
    43501F #1 costs$22.00,
    O-ring is $8.00
    and bearing assy was $183.55. WTF!

    I have not had to remove / replace my front bearings yet. I was under the impression from the photos posted on TW, that the roller bearing is obtainable, but the outer bearing race is part of the flange. In other words, in a typical bearing setup, you have the roller assembly and a bearing race that is pressed or driven into the housing.

    If you replace the bearing into a worn / used housing, wouldn't this be asking for troubles from the start?

    As I said, I could be all wrong and maybe those bearing races can be replaced.

    Pardon my ignorance as I have not had this apart but..............if it is an unserviceable sealed pressed in bearing, then why does it need more than a couple of o rings to keep crap out. What oil is there that is requiring the inner/outer oil seals? If bearings are serviceable then why can't we just repack them to prevent them from going out as soon as they seem to do? Is the early demise a 4wd thing vs. prerunner thing since they are just rolling on the prerunner and no power is applied to them?

    I have read that both 4wd and prerunners have bearing issues, the 5 lug does not. The seals are grease seals to keep crud out and grease from flowing out onto the suspension and no doub greasing the brakes.

    As for servicing, the task involves the same disassembly and pressing apart so most folks would not bother with it until failure.

    So, what is with the right and left numbers? The aftermarket sources don't differentiate between the two. Why does Toyota? I want to buy a hub, #43501/43502, so I can have a bearing assembly pressed in and have a complete unit ready to bolt in to save time in the future. I'm hoping I can buy just one and use it for either side. Which one should I get? the 01 or the 02?
