I would like to install lsd on my tacoma, as I am sure you are all aware the regular cab more not have any lockers or lsd available. I have also found not many parts exist for 2012 models. I think that I still have the same axles as many previous year models? But I was wondering if anyone could confirm that for me, or tell me which Detroit truetrack I would need front and back for my truck?
    2.7l 5 so manual 4x4
    Thanks

I read a little on that online. Its only in the rear, right? And it uses the breaking system? And from what I understood it is not available in 4L. I would like to make this an off road rig that I can still use as my daily driver. Do I have simillar axles to other model years or does anyone know the compatible part number for true track or torsen for my truck?

if you want to lock front and rear and still have daily driving comfort you want a selectable locker. ARB front and rear seems to be your only option, unless there are other selectable lockers on the market.

it's pretty expensive. I'd lock the rear first, and if you find you need more off road capability (i.e. you wheel the piss out of it) then lock the front.

I am familiar with airlockers and have installed them in my cj7. In theory the torsen differential is far superior to lockers delivering more torque to the wheel that needs itit has fewer parts and no clutchpacks or other expendable parts. Although many people don't like the fact that you don't get to push a cool button. Unlike a locker a helical lsd also is benificial in tuns because of the ideal gear theory. Does anyone know which front diff is in the regular cab manual.

The front is the Toyota 8" clamshell. For off road traction there is nothing better than a full selectable locker. Its either open for turning and spooled for traction. Thre are more moving parts in a selectable locker though.

Currently ARB is the only company offering any type of traction control for the front differential. I put a Eaton LSD in the rear of my truck and I love it. The only thing I would switch it for would be a Detroit.

I will put an ARB in the Front if I ever need it.

I know that you can get a Detroit true track for a regular cab manual, both front and rear. But I'm not sure what size my bearings are in front or back cause they have different bearing sets also I think I have 30 alpine but I am not sure.

You should call up east coast gear supply, they will know everything you are wanting to know.

Hope you have found all your answers, if not... and for viewers wondering:

You have several selectable traction choices in your 2012 Tacoma:

    1) Normal 2WD is with TRAC, limited slip using both enging output regulation and brakes to limit spin and transfer power to the traction tire.

    2) Press the VSC switch once for AUTO LSD, in 2WD: This is a stronger limited slip as there is no engine regulation. Use to get moving from a stop on slippery surfaces.

3,4) To have no traction controls (2WD or 4WD-Hi), stop moving, press and hold down the VSC switch (about 3-5 seconds)...

    5) Normal 4WD-HI has TRAC limited slip, but is stronger because there is no engine regulation (same as AUTO LSD in H2).

    6) Normal 4WD-LO has no traction controls. (see 4-low-trac mod to gain TRAC in L4).

*The Off Road TRD has a rear locker, and the 4WD Off Road TRD has A-TRAC on all 4 tires, a system that provides the traction very near that of lockers, without the issues of steering on tight roads.
