The route in front of the fork arch to prevent them rubbing on the stanchions, and because it is less twists on the cables.

With a good zip tie, or using the designed clamp on the fork(if available), rubbing should not really be an issue.

The framesaver patches work fine, but my clear ones have yellowed, if looks are important to you. No issues with them coming off though...

To get some pictures up - some updates to the Chromag...

New chain device - MRP Lopes to replace a Blackspire Stinger

New seatpost - Thomson layback - I found myself a little cramped on some rides, so I decided to try this post out - ended up loving the feel on the bike, so it stays...

New Bars - Chromag OSX (780mm) to replace the 720mm bars I had been using. This width matches my other bike (RF Atlas bars) for a similar cockpit feel.

Changed Fork - Went from a Fox 36 Talas (07, 09 internals) to the RS Sektor RL SL, OEM fork from my other bike. I was riding the Talas in 130mm mode 90% of the time, so this is 10mm longer A-C, and about 1/2lb lighter. For majority of my riding, it is perfect. FS bike got a '12 36 Float, so I keep the "bigger" bike feel on that ride.

And a mid-update pic, getting ready for a ride, to get the Taco in the shot:

^^^^^^^^^^ Thanks for the pic. Been lookin at some sort of chain guide for one of my bikes and after seeing your pic, I've decided to ditch the bash ring and go with that type.

The Stinger + Bash worked fairly well, but I would occasionally still drop the chain on rough (repeated hit) decents. I wanted the upper guide (a la XCX from e*13), but the lower roller helps reduce the noise. Giving up the bash was a hard one for me, but I realized that I very rarely hit it, so I decided to give this one a go.

Worst case, I dont like it, but I had my first ride on it yesterday, and so far, so good.

I have 34t chainring and the bash goes up to 44t so it is a bit oversized. Works great to keep chain from coming off the outside but not so great when chain is stressed when climbing in 1st gear on the cassette. That's the only time mine comes off but it is a really bad time to come off tho. I don't have the luxury of sticking it in between the bottom bracket and frame nor do I have the bb shell with the 3 mounting screws in it either so its poser fr derailleur with limit screw tweaked all the way out or the MRP type in the pic. I think I'll be better off ditching the bash ring and going for the MRP like in the pic on last pg.

one thing i saw on MTBR was that some guys use an inner and outer bash guard as a chain guide. i thought it was pretty cool but only works with a triple

The MRP Lopes I am using is an ISCG mount (the 3 tabs around the BB).
If you dont have ISCG tabs, or cannot replace a BB spacer with the plate, your best option may be something like the e*13 XCX guide or MRP 1x that replaces the front derailleur. They work fairly well on their own, from what I hear.

I have rub marks on my fork from the cables. Guess how much it affects my riding. That's right...ZEROOOOO. Gives the bike character!

So I picked a really bad time to find this thread. Just had ACL surgery and won't be riding for a long while. Now I have not only the itch to ride but the itch to upgrade the bike I can't ride. Damn it all!

interesting...but i guess if i was going 1x9 with a single ring crank and threaded bottom bracket i would use a standard chain guide with tensioner haha

    You have Pressfit?

The price is not outrageous, depending on what you have/run.

If you are coming off a triple, the cost of a bash is ~$30, a single ring is $30, and any guide other than a stinger is ~$50-130.

I too would go with a guide (obviously... :D), but the Widget is a good buy depending on what you currently have, or if you have something like a PF30 BB and no other easy way to mount a guide of some kind.
